My version of hobbit-ness
13 May 2010 09:33 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
This is a resurrection of the crossover fic meme from last year. (In the hobbit tradition of giving gifts on one's birthday.) I'm slightly ahead of time, I realise, but I thought best to collect the prompts now & maybe there will be fic on the weekend for people. It's
fic_rush time again, you know.
Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.
For something like this, I'm willing to do almost anything I've seen/read.
So, here goes, but anything I've mentioned here before is fair game.
Doctor Who (all eras)
Spooks
Buffy & Angel
X-Files
ST - but only Voyager, I'm afraid.
Carry On films
Allo Allo
Dungeons & Dragons (The cartoon!)
The Mummy
Gosford Park
Love Actually
Red Dwarf
The Brittas Empire
On The Up
Poirot & Miss Marple
New Tricks
Life on Mars & Ashes to Ashes (with the very important rider that I can't write Gene.)
Chalet School series
Diana Wynne Jones (well, I'd have a stab)
Anne Perry books
I know Discworld, but I'm feeling wimpish about making the attempt...
...But for the moment at any rate, I can get away with Blandings (PG Wodehouse) &, so I'd have a stab at Jeeves and Wooster, too.
Georgette Heyer
Harry Potter
Press Gang
Wilkie Collins (esp. The Moonstone & The Woman in White)
Jane Austen
Charlotte Bronte
I have read / read an awful lot of 'classics', plus for work-reasons, I read a huge amount of teen and children's books, so try me if you think of something.
Star Wars
Adrian Plass
I Capture The Castle
Fairy tales
Blake's 7
Hotel Babylon
House of Eliott
I could make a very bad stab at S1-3 The West Wing, too.
I am a very scary person, I now realise. Where did everyone go?

Please can I have Inspector Japp out of Poirot (the Philip Jackson TV version) meets the Seventh Doctor in the course of some escapade?

fightingmeeting. You have to wait tillno subject
Date: 15 May 2010 01:52 pm (UTC)Heh, well, you never know. I think that's another one that the DbyAistas have discussed at some point, a bit like Seven/Beatrix Potter, so...you never know... I think Gene's dialogue would be a bit hard to write well, and not just because of its relentless offensiveness; he has a very distinct sort of voice, I find. Duggan would almost certainly punch him...and get punched straight back...

(Though that was said of Ancelyn and Bambera, whose relationship developed... I think I need brain bleach now.)

Date: 16 May 2010 02:06 pm (UTC)But yeah, probably best not to commit. It's already starting to expand worryingly in my mind, despite the brain bleach application.

Date: 18 May 2010 03:55 pm (UTC)And, you see, that's why you have to be careful with the brain bleach. Sometimes it just creates a vacuum into which fic spreads to cover the whole, because of nature not liking to do the vacuuming.*
(*There's a possibility I may now be delirious. ;-D)

Date: 18 May 2010 08:32 pm (UTC)But yes, probably best to keep it simple. Sam Tyler/NuWho Master fic can wait til next time! ;D
But yes, this is my new cracktastic theory for just what the flipping heck is going on in Ashes to Ashes. It's the Land of Fiction from the Mind Robber; Sam Tyler _is_ NuWho Master, who somehow ended up there after EoT. Which makes Alex Drake Romana, that creepy DCI in the mac possibly the Black Guardian, and Gene Hunt either the Twelfth Doctor, the White Guardian, the Celestial Toymaker or some strange gestalt entity composed of all three of them. Or maybe Rassilon. Which just leaves me to decide who all of the other characters might be...
I'll be very, very disappointed if this doesn't turn out to be the actual real explanation on Friday! XD

Date: 19 May 2010 05:22 pm (UTC)Well, unless it was some cunning narrative in-joke, which it could be, you'd have to explain how, 40 years before Harold Saxon, you got the ref in. Personally, I'm sure that's been covered and slashed, whereas Duggan-Gene fighting has not been done even once, and that is a crime. A crime, I say!
no subject
Date: 19 May 2010 08:45 pm (UTC)Oh yeah, somebody has almost certainly written that one. As for Duggan-Gene, well it's another one on the list anyway.

I can't guarantee whether the fic will be perfect, but the idea is.

Date: 14 May 2010 04:09 pm (UTC)regarding 2, it's not exactly what you meant, but near enough that I'm not sure I want to go there again. I have written a Storytime version of Rapunzel, with Four as the husband who steals the rapunzel. It's HERE if you want to look. (It's part of This Time Round, the place where DW characters go when they're off duty and the wackiness that ensues there. Including the bit where they have to tell stories to younger versions of themselves that then take on a life of their own. Is this sounding complicated? Ignore me.)

I hope you have a lovely day nevertheless *throws streamers and balloons*

Date: 14 May 2010 04:15 pm (UTC)And thank you! And I CANNOT believe that birthday fic from you would be terrible. I shall patiently await its appearance in a year or so, then. ;-)

Date: 14 May 2010 08:52 pm (UTC)I'm tempted to go for another casting gag (Sam Tyler and Nu-Master? Lynda Day and Emma from "The Curse of Fatal Death"? Jools Siviter and Bertie Wooster?? The main character from "On The Up" whose name I've forgotten and Gerry Standing???) but instead I'd like to see Dana Scully deal with the existence of Spike from Buffy/Angel.

Date: 15 May 2010 05:24 pm (UTC)I don't know which bits of Georgette Heyer you're best at, but if Miss Marple could meet the title character (Hugo) from The Unknown Ajax, that would be awesome.
Or, under the category of "children's books", have you ever read the Swallows and Amazons series? I would love to see Liz Shaw meet anyone from those books, especially Captain Nancy (wow).
Or - this is probably quite impossible, but do you think you could do some kind of interaction between the TARDIS and the Millennium Falcon? I has major vehicle love.
(I also have, as you can see, major improbable-crossover love. If these requests are too utterly impossible for you to write, anything involving original!Star Wars and any era of Who would be lovely. Thank you very much.)
no subject
Date: 15 May 2010 07:04 pm (UTC)And I've read pretty much all Georgette Heyer's stuff I don't know how many time - so glad you like her too! What is Miss Marple doing in the past, though? (I know the meme says not to worry about these things, but I do...) I think they'd make a good pairing - no criminal would get far, that's for sure. Well, unless they were on opposite sides, as with them hiding the truth in the book. :-D
I shall write them down and see which one wins. ;-)
Um. My list has a lot of really, really obscure things on. And it's mostly British, so...
no subject
Date: 15 May 2010 11:20 pm (UTC)Miss Marple doesn't have a fixed birthdate; it's always 74 years or so before the 'present day' of the story. If anything, she gets younger and more sprightly the later the book is set. So, as with UNIT, one can just murmur 'dating controversy' and then write her into any point in history.
