On the other hand...
Jun. 26th, 2010 08:23 pmAs it turned out, the two little girls have started watching DW, so arrived and demanded to see the last episode. Naturally, I volunteered for this testing duty...
Barely worth putting behind a cut, but: Aw, they really meant the stuff about it being a fairy tale. And it finally clicked, the so-obvious thing that I've got back in this one, and not had previously in New Who - and it is so obvious, I've even said it, just not quite realised: it's the Doctor and companion as grandfather and (substitute) granddaughter (or something like it), and it's been a long while, and I like having it back, even if just for a bit (because all companion/Doctor relationships are different).
Oh, and the thing about the TARDIS and then wedding saying. That bit was perfect. I'd have to watch it a lot more times to say about everything else, but that bit was perfect, and set up, and only obvious at the actual moment. Favourite bit. Even over getting to see wee!Amelia again.
And, what next for this TARDIS team, I wonder? Because that's not something that can be repeated, so I'm intrigued as to where we go next. Which is nice, too.
And then we had to play with make-up (my flatmate and I own very little, so this is amusing) and hair (I have about four hairbands in at the moment).
So, how long till Christmas?

Date: 2010-06-26 07:36 pm (UTC)It's a multi-season ARC! It's NOT over YET!! OMG!!
I want to be Moffat when I grow up! If I learn to plot as well as he does, I'll be overjoyed!

Date: 2010-06-26 08:13 pm (UTC)Yes, but that specific bit was, with Amy being 'wrong', so I'm just wondering how the TARDIS vibe will be now. In a good way.
Study Press Gang, and then his DW eps, I suppose! (Not too painful...)

Date: 2010-06-27 05:02 am (UTC)No, something River said to the Doctor just before she left, linked into what had already gone before to tie in with what's to come.
I barely remember Press Gang.

Date: 2010-06-27 07:46 am (UTC)Which, of course, begs the question, where do you keep your time machine to be taking pics like that?

Date: 2010-06-27 07:48 am (UTC)You'll have to enlighten me. I read Lije Bailey books (after all, The Robots of Death is based on The Naked Sun - I had to go and find it!), some of the others and all of the Foundation books (the ending of which annoyed me to death. Heh.) but I don't think I ever read Nightfall.

Date: 2010-06-27 10:36 am (UTC)Anyway, one world, 6 suns, so there's no such thing as night, they *know* they're all alone in the universe and that the universe is only their planet and the suns, etc. Except for one day every 5492874 years.... and then the stars come out!
It's a brilliant story and he and Silverberg added a beginning and an end and made a brilliant book out of it. :)

Date: 2010-06-27 12:03 pm (UTC)By the ending of the Foundation books do you mean the original ending (The Second Foundation) or the new books? I love The Second Foundation, but I agree that the sequels he wrote later were not as good. And when he combined them with the robots... no, just no. I loved the robots, loved Foundation, but sometimes people don't know when to stop :(

Date: 2010-06-27 12:09 pm (UTC)Yes, I mean the sequels. I liked the first couple a lot, but I was really put off by the later ones. I enjoyed them, mind,k to a degree, but then the final conclusion - no. Just, no. I agree with you entirely - the combination of the two as it went on, took away from both original sets quite a bit.

Date: 2010-06-27 01:04 pm (UTC)And yeah! on everything :) I usually just do my best to ignore everything after Second Foundation :D I think I *did* like Robots and Empire, so it's not as bad on the robot side, but Foundation? ended with two sequels :D
