I began a little scattily on the 30 Days of Awesome Females meme, and despite the subject of this entry, will tidy myself up now. This list excludes DW (for the sake of not taking up all 30 places) and will include more than one character I wanted to grow up to be (of whom this character is one. Erm. Yes.), at least two I never even thought I'd like when they first appeared and a few so obvious they could almost go without saying (but where would be the fun in that?)

Day Three: Michelle Dubois / Michelle of the Resistance (Kirsten Cooke)

"All the girls of the Resistance have sacrificed their knickers for France!"

Of course, you can't take Allo Allo seriously, but who dreams up all the cunning plans; who is the cleverest and bravest character (aside from possibly Helga)? That would be one unassuming, quiet postmistress (or possibly librarian) who spends her spare time fighting for France... It is not easy, you know. Plus, she looks really great when disguised as an undertaker. If the cunning plans go wrong, that is more usually because of other people's equally complicated plots coinciding and the unhelpfulness of London in these matters. What's more she's the only (French) person in Nouvion who can speak English at all.

(I did think about Helga, who is clearly the cleverest of the Germans, but there are times when you have to worry about Helga. I give Edith an honourable mention, however.)

I couldn't find a tribute vid, but here is a short clip in which Michelle's catchphrase gets abused more than usual:

This meme will resume with somebody more sensible shortly.

Day One: Soolin (B7)

Ah, Allo Allo, definitely up there with my favourite British Comedies (others being One Foot In The Grave, Blackadder, You Rang M'Lord? and Dad's Army) And Michelle is definitely one of the best characters - always amused me how all of the Resistance were women in the same outfit as well! :)

Hm, the 30 Days things sounds fun. If I can come up with a suitable enough topic in a month I'm more free I may try it myself...

Oh yes, loved Michelle (and the way she used Rene's vanity :)

I went through a phase of saying Michelle's catch-phrase too often - but I justified it by sharing her name (though differently spelled)!

One of my favourite Michelle lines is when she asked Yvette what she saw in René, listened to the resulting declaration of love, and then replied: "You poor child. You should eat more green vegetables."

I personally think Helga is the cleverest person in the whole show and I wish she had just got the Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies all to herself. Michelle, however, is also made of win.:D

Yeah, she's a tough one to figure out. I choose to just peg her down as the ultimate survivor type. I wasn't suprised to hear that she came from a working-class background.

It did happen (I didn't like it much, though). TBH, I'd have loved it if she ended up running away with the painting and getting all the profit.;D

You really don't want to know about how I once made up a character based on Helga who then went on to become and avante-garde poet.XD
