(I'll try and catch up with other things later!)

Memed (via time capsule or something) from [livejournal.com profile] aralias, because I haven't seen this one and it looked like fun (the sort of thing we like around here, anyway):

Leave a list of fictional characters in your journal that you would love to get a message from. Your f- and f-of-list's mission, should they choose to accept it, is to write you an in-character "letter" from a character on that list. Then they post their own list in their journal and the process continues!

1. The Doctor (any and all of him)
2. Vila Restal
3. Lynda Day
4. Jeeves (but of course it would probably have to be passed on by Bertie...)
5. Harry Pearce
6. Orac
7. Avon
8. The Brigadier
9. Servalan
10. Captain Janeway

(But, you know how much I like all people from Things I Like, so if you felt moved to write to me from a different person from any of those, I would not complain at all or say it was not in the spirit of the meme. The list ended up pretty random anyway. Except for the Doctor, who was always and quite rightly, no 1.)

Like I said, will catch up with peoples later, but nice meme, yes?

I don't know if the Brigadier would write to you in your official capacity, but if he did I think it might go something like this:
Dear [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook,

The Minister for Local Government has forwarded me your letter of the 14th. In respect of the points you raise:

i) Bowling green. My scientific advisor assures me that, provided all traces of the viridonite crystals have been removed, this area poses no significant risk to public health. A thorough examination should, of course, be made of the site and any remaining shards retrieved. I am told that a Geiger counter will prove useful in tracking down the fragments. In view of the pictures you have enclosed, I suggest that the area would now be more suited for use as a boating lake or ornamental pond.

ii) Alderman Jenkins's car. While I appreciate the Alderman's insurers may be reluctant to settle his claim, we would remind the Alderman that it is entirely due to his efforts that our negotiations with the Xenowisps failed and we were forced to adopt more drastic measures. The Alderman must therefore accept some share of responsibility for the consequences of those measures.

iii) Penguins. I am unable to explain the disappearance of these, and can only assure you that UNIT has nothing whatsoever to do with it. I suggest that you contact the Torchwood Institute (address enclosed) who may have removed them in the mistaken belief that they were connected in some way with the recent Xenowisp manifestations.

iv) Professor Bickerstaff's various complaints. The Professor is well known to UNIT, and in our opinion is best ignored.

v) Your left glove. Miss Grant, whom I believe you met briefly during the recent events, sends you her profound apologies and encloses a mitten she has knitted for you as a replacement. I hope you will accept this in the spirit it was intended, and overlook any deficiencies in its construction.

Yours etc.,

Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart

And... you want Servalan to write to you? Wouldn't that lead to something along the lines of

Owing to the economic situation and terrorist depredations the Federation can no longer afford to subsidise the meals-on-wheels service or the bandstand. Please detonate the scuttling charges on both of these assets to ensure no use of them is made by the enemy.
or worse?

Stepping out of character... the Alderman was sort of demanded by the format. It's a Three-and-UNIT story, so there's got to be a pompous, obstructive politician or bureaucrat to act as a minor antagonist. 'Alderman' is a handy shorthand :-)

I think 'Councillor' is a slightly more neutral term.

Or maybe the strange effects of UNIT dating have deposited you and UNIT in a time period when Aldermen were more plentiful...
