Fanvid: So I See (Doctor Who)
Nov. 15th, 2011 08:43 pmI have made another fanvid. (It should be the last for a while, or I think so at the moment!) It's been rather a while in the making, in that I first thought of it about 2 years ago, and I found the song back in July. I was pleased with it, but now I'm not so sure it wasn't an odd thing to do, or whether it's worked out wrong, but that may just be tiredness. Or because I'm sad for all the characters I didn't get in (although I think I managed about 35?).
Anyway, a tribute to some of the female guest stars of Doctor Who! (It's really my Love & Science Drabbles as a fanvid, but minus the companions, mostly. If anyone remembers those.):
So I See (Link goes to YouTube).
The Doctor, and the other women in his life, the ones he doesn't get to travel with.
It's a little bit shippy for: One/Cameca, Eight/Grace, Seven/Ray, Five/Todd and maybe Nine/Jabe. And, um, also a bit Two/Jean Rock.
My criteria being: strong female characters the Doctor met only once - which is how Grace crept in [I wanted the TVM in my fanvid, and Eight, so there; it's my vid and the TVM is very pretty] - with precedence given to those intelligent/academic/medical/scientific [preferable mature(ish)] women he likes so much. Also practice-run companions. And Four's liking for wonderfully eccentric elderly ladies. Anyone else was a bonus.
You can ask me why X is in and Y isn't, but I have a really good reason. I promise. Mostly. Some of the time. (Generally, it's something like this: the BBC burninated them; the BBC haven't released them on DVD; I don't own the DVD, silly me; the clips wouldn't go; they didn't fit the profile, and mostly not that I don't like them.)
Anyway, it's my first foray into what I count as 'proper' DW fanvidding (multi-era, and Classic!), and I'm a little nervous that everyone will just think it a weird thing to make, that it's not very good anyway, and that I am a bad person for leaving out X. (How could I leave out X?) Plus, there is very little Three and Six. This is their fault for not having many characters who counted. Three doesn't have them in the stories I have, and Six has strong female characters, but they are pretty much all evil. I outlawed evil from the vid at the start. And that is not because I don't love them. Also I don't own any Eleven on DVD. That is not to say I don't love him, too. You all know that by now, though, don't you?

Date: 2011-11-16 05:03 pm (UTC)I probably shouldn't have posted last night, because I was so tired & down, but then if I hadn't posted, I would probably have deleted it from YouTube. Today I am sensible again, and don't really care if I am odd. Much. But I do care about nice feedback from people, so thanks. :-)

"I've been around a bit. I think you can assume at some point I've ... danced."

Date: 2011-11-16 11:21 pm (UTC)And one clip reminded me of something else that I meant to remark to you about a while ago but forgot - the guards in Frontios wear the same helmets as the Federation soldiers in Blakes 7. By far not the only example of this I've noted in Who (the Bannermen in Delta and... are wearing the same helmets as the soldiers in Earthshock - and Mordred's knights in Battlefield have the same ones as Count Grendel's guards in The Androids of Tara), but this is a cross-series example so...anyway, good old thrifty BBC... ;D

Date: 2011-11-17 05:56 pm (UTC)Yes, I noticed that! It's usually B7 where they nick the Doctor Who props. (I am sure they borrow stuff from Genesis in S2, and in Project Avalon, Servalan seems to be wearing Romana's cloak from The Ribos Operation, only she steps out of it, letting it fall to the ground without even looking to see if someone will pick it up. She is so cool. *cough*) I hadn't noticed the other bits. I can recognise a Federation helmet, but apparently I don't look at other helmets so much. I do look at what Servalan and Romana are wearing... In fact, every time I watch B7 I see something that looks familiar.
