Um. Yes. I'm sorry? For one thing, I had this written out in rough before my birthday. Had I known I was going to get such a lovely Liz/Silver story then, I would have not troubled my head with writing one. Which turned into several scenarios, and then this. And also there's a sad ending (but once it became more than one meeting, I think that was inevitable, much as I usually avoid death!fic. Well, unless it's OCs. I kill them off ruthlessly. Or actual canon). Anyway, I wrote it, I typed it up; here it is:

No spoilers for either series. (It should be accessible to DW fans without knowledge of S&S, or I hope so, anyway. I'm not sure about the other way around.)

Summary: The problem is that Liz Shaw always likes to try and understand a mystery…

Thanks! And, even aside from the fact I could never have got it done that fast, that would have been terrible, so... I did nearly put mineaway, after reading yours, 'cos that was just lovely. But I still liked some bits of it too much.

Oh, no, I don't count them when they go round killing off companions and generally making their lives a misery. (So, I sort of count the NAs sometimes, but rarely the MAs...)

Hmm, I don't know. Maybe I over-think things, but it just doesn't feel like a series thing to me. But thank you.

ETA: You really should post those two birthday fics on sapphirensteel - if you wanted to, of course. Everyone's usually pretty pleased to see new S&S fic, and I can see the seaside one in particular going down well, and I don't think everyone there is on AO3 yet, although quite a few are.

I just wondered about the death scene, because the whole 'killed slowly by an alien artefact' thing seems to dovetail with the summaries I've read of that book. But I think there's less agony in your version.

I still try to avoid spoilers, even for things I know it's highly unlikely I'll ever read. I made the ending as vague as possible so that it might fit into whatever someone wanted it to fit in with - I hadn't realised I'd accidentally come that close to an actual version.

That's only because Silver was there.

And ??? There's nothing showing on my flist yet. (The mod's AWOL, so if it's gone into a queue, it'll stay there forever, in a v S&S-like fashion. LJ seems to have done something and now it doesn't like links to AO3, even though it used to be fine. That happened to me when I tried to post my remix fic. If so, you'll have to post the fic itself to the comm, or post to element_flash instead which does have active mods (but is slightly smaller). Or give up, of course, but I hope not.

I don't know how close you did come to the actual version, because I'm not inclined to spend money on the book either. That sort of thing only encourages authors :-)
