Day 4: Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.
I have been continuing (on and off) to poke around in Yuletide fics and have been leaving comments whenever I could, and most of these have been to new people. Maybe not today, but definitely several yesterday, and there will doubtless be more, so let's count this one as done.
Day 5: In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing.
This is a creator, in terms of fanworks, and I did this last year, but actually, how to single one person out? Especially when so many of my favourite creators are here on my flist? I didn't feel all that comfortable about it last year, and I still don't now, so I'll skip this one. Let's just say that so many of you right here on my flist are so awesome at making stuff - icons, fic, vids and all sorts of things that you make me wonder why I even bother to attempt anything of my own. Anyway, yay, for glorious fannish things and amazingly talented people! \o/
Day 12: In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom. What are your hopes and dreams for fandom? Do you have any predictions about what the next five years holds for fandom?
I don't really have many thoughts about the future of fandom. I'm sure it'll carry on, one way or another. I hope it doesn't all disappear into things like Tumblr where you can't talk properly, but people will carry on liking things, sharing things and arguing and so on wherever and however, I'm sure. Unless there really is a zombie apocalypse, of course.
Day 8: In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you howamazing and awesome and loveable you really are sometimes you're not that bad.
Er...
Like several others on my flist, I don't know what to do with this day, either. (We were all British, I notice; sometimes cultural stereotypes are at least semi-true.) I suppose I'm not actually averse to people saying nice things about me, really. But mostly everybody's already very nice to me round here; asking for more is just being greedy. Let's move on, shall we?

Date: 2014-01-22 08:45 pm (UTC)Anyway, I think you're a lovely person. I feel really privileged to be your friend. You've introduced me to some wonderful things (Spooks, Anne Perry's William Monk series, etc), reminded me of the awesomeness of some things I'd half forgotten (Sapphire and Steel), and even when something hasn't really struck a chord with me (The West Wing - sorry!), I'm still grateful that you liked me enough to make the attempt. I LOVE sharing fandoms with you.

Because the things you make are brilliant! (see icon for example)
Day 12: I can't stand Tumblr either. I don't understand the appeal. Okay, I a bit understand the appeal; not having to talk with people is quick, gratifying, and probably does a lot to mitigate the wank factor, but it also leaves out 98% of what I love about fandom.
Day 8: That's the second question on this meme that confounds me. Asking for praise is something that, in many (most?) cultures is drummed in from a young age as something terribly rude, and I think it's hard to get past that even within the framework of a meme. BUT! Since you didn't actually ask:
I think you're absolutely lovely. The sheer joy you take in obscure fandoms and actors is contagious, so that I feel happy even if I don't end up following that fandom (and then, there are the occasions when I do and it is glorious). Thank you for sharing your fannish joy; for being a bringer of links (to random pairing generators!); a great leader among penguins, a maker of comms, a distributor of icons, and a perpetrator of cake!fic.

Date: 2014-01-23 09:35 am (UTC)I don't mind Tumblr - it's useful for posting images, and it's not that you can't communicate on it, but it's going all round the houses to do what LJ does really simply. Plus, my computer dies at all the gifs, anyway. But, yes. *nods* (And it doesn't eliminate any of the worse side of fandom - because there's less discussion, it all denegerates into angry reblogging in caps lock even faster.)
Yes - I can never do them even when they're a big anonymous love meme with lots of people taking part for the same reason. But thank you for the compliments. And, don't worry, I know how ridiculous some of my old TV is, though, yeah, some of it can be also very awesome. (B7, obviously, and S&S.) Anyway, you are the originator of cake!fic! So. ♥
