Fandom Snowflake: Day 15

Day 15: In your own space, create your own challenge. What’s something you want to see more people doing in fandom? Is there something fun you’ve tried that you think other people would enjoy if they gave it a go? Dare your friends to try it out, and have fun with it.

As it happens, I am setting up a challenge (maybe even two). Anyway, this one is something I thought of around 2010, I think, and made a comm for it while really ill and bored in early 2012. And, while prompt tables and LJ itself, I suppose, are now out of date, I think it's time to let it out into the wild, so, nice timing, snowflake_challenge.

It's this, a mini prompt table challenge, for Doctor Who: dw_allsorts

Anyway, the reasoning was that there was no comm with set tables left for Doctor Who (there used to be whoverse30 and I think one or two others) - only dw100 (weekly prompts for drabbles) and I think doctorwho_100, which was a 100-prompt table. So there should be something in between for a large fandom like Doctor Who. But even 20-50 prompts is a lot, so I came up with this. (All the prompt tables are between 3 and 20.)

It is pretty much ready, so I will put it on who_daily very soon. In the meantime, if any of you feel so kind as to take a look and see if there are any errors or obviously confusing things, I'd be grateful. Or if you have an idea for a prompt table to add! (I'd give you credit, of course.)

And, of course, it is ready to go, so anyone wanting to actually sign up and create stuff, do!! I'd love you to be a guinea pig bwahahahaha do that. Feel free.

I suppose it would be a pain to rearrange the 3-prompt Doctor tables so they were in Doctor order -- First, Second, Third, etc? That's probably just me being picky, but I do like to be able to tell at a glance if a thing has All The Doctors or just A Random Doctor/Some Random Doctors to choose from. ;P

Well, tags are arranged alphabetically - even if I used numbers 10 and 11 would come before 2-9 anyway.

They're just tables, though, so I don't think it matters? It's not what people are going to be writing, just the theme for the prompts. Is that too confusing in itself? I could get rid of them if it is, I just thought they were fun.

No, no, don't remove them, they are fun. :-)

I might not be thinking clearly, or expressing myself clearly -- I just got back from the post office and I'm rather tired -- but I didn't mean in the tags (I didn't see the tags till after scrolling through the post, since I used your go-to-post links), I meant in the post itself. Maybe I'm missing something, but reading through the post, I couldn't see any logic to the order the tables came up (something something Third Doctor, something First Doctor, Second Doctor, something something Seventh Doctor...), and it confused my poor little brain a bit. ;P I suppose they're just in the order you made them up as you were writing the post?

Oh, I see. Yes, I didn't want them all together (I don't know why) and just put them in between the other tables as I wrote them. :-)

!! aaahh I still have the Trope Bingo (that I've actually almost finished a rough draft for, which is more than last year), but this looks great. I can't spot any faults, but I'm html-blind, so there's that.

Good! And while bingos are a lot of fun, prompt tables are just ongoing, so they're always possible as a thing to have on the backburner. ;-)

Oh this looks really cool! I like the short prompt tables.

I tried to do trope bingo but failed miserably at writing anything (seems to be my MO of late); maybe a shorter table will help. :)

I love this idea. 3 is a number even I might be able to do :) And I love that the 6 prompt one has a Table of Rassilon.

I noticed one mistake - on the six prompt tables, for Film Titles you have 3 as Huddling for warmth, which I think you've copied from the Tropes table above it.

Oh, and thank you for the error-spotting! I did do a lot of c/ping, and I really should have had a default blank template. Thanks for catching it. I'll go fix it now....
