It's mostly fairly similar to last year (unsurprisingly) but a few new things made it in. "So We Meet At Last" I wrote just after this meme last year, and it's going to be the fic I'm known for, it seems. The White Queen TV series unexpectedly boosted the little Henry VII/Elizabeth of York ficlet upwards, which was fun. And what really surprised me was "Police Boxes Don't Just Vanish, Do They?" because maybe the world did need Public Eye fanfic, after all? Or just a DW outsider POV, I suppose. Either way, I'd no idea it had got that many hits in a short time. (I think long/odd titles catch people's attention. And multi-era Doctor Who fics.)
Kudos
(Or, as I think of it, the best test of what people actually like on AO3. After all, what does a hit tell you, but that someone arrived by accident and then ran away in horror at your first sentence? And not everybody leaves comments, but usually people will at least press the kudos button if they cared at all.)
1. So We Meet At Last - 72 kudos [New]
2. Observation - 48 kudos [1]
3. Of Elements and Existence - 40 kudos [2]
4. Five Times the Doctor Got in the Way of Captain Janeway (and One Time They Got Along Just Fine) - 35 [5]
5. The Time Traveller's Guide: Important Additional Information (The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England, Yuletide 2013) 34 kudos [New]
6. Truth & Compromise - 32 kudos [3]
7. New Tricks for Old Dogs (or Five Alternate Universes Where Sandra Pullman Was Always Awesome) (New Tricks, Yuletide 2012) - 27 kudos [8]
8. Persistence in Porcelain (Jonathan Creek, Yuletide 2013) - 26 kudos [New]
9. Ten Times the Doctor... - 25 kudos [7]
10. Vigil (Measure for Measure, Yuletide 2012) - 23 kudos [6]
(11. Seeking Dragons - 23 Kudos [4])
Yuletide wins as ever, and, of course, Miss Marple. Clearly, I need to aim for a Miss Marple pwns somebody ficlet once a year now if I want to retain any sort of popularity. (It's funny, though, I felt that I pretty much "failed" at Yuletide this year, whereas I liked last year's fic, but actually the two fics from the main collection are in there and above the others already, so... feelings are, as ever, unreliable.)

What can I say? Miss Marple beating Dracula is what AO3 was lacking. *amused* Also, 8 out of these are Yuletide fics. If you want actual comments, Yuletide wins. (Yuletide is ♥)

7. Compendium - 4
8. Ten Times the Doctor... - 4

10. something in the heart - 4
Mistaken (Doctor Who) also has 4.
(Yes, I don't know about the random Poirot suddenly in there, either. Hello, M. Poirot, nice moustache, no matter what the Doctor thinks!)
I looked at the fics lurking at the bottom, but to be honest, they're mainly drabbles, fairly recently archived (and backdated) and a Public Eye drabble. Human Development has also been pretty solidly ignored (Children of the Damned, 26 hits, 0 comments, kudos etc.) but I expected that when I wrote it, so fair enough. I can't complain about any of those being unfairly neglected.

Date: 2014-05-02 07:28 am (UTC)As for Miss Marple vs Dracula, that is absolutely what the internet has been crying out for. I'm half tempted to suggest that she take on the Daleks next.

No, no, I think that, too, quite passionately, but then I have reservations. A show that's an outsider POV, a way of telling ordinary stories that don't get told elsewhere - every decade and place could use one, and wouldn't it be wonderful? And keeping with the honesty that's both hard and compassionate at the same time.
But i fear if someone remade it, they'd just remake it & it'd be a series about Frank Marker (which, I know, technically it is, but it also isn't). Though, on the other hand, if they wanted to straight refilm S4 without changing anything, they could go ahead. I'd have issues with it, but hey, they really could.
And then I wonder how much it works because of Alfred Burke and Frank, and that maybe even if you got the first bit and the right kind of new outsider character to do that odd job and want to help people, maybe it still wouldn't work, because it was just one of those things that come down to the magic of TV chemistry and you couldn't do it again?
(I might have thought about this a lot.)
And Miss Marple against the Daleks is an awesome thought. More difficult than Dracula, though.
