I Googled "Allo Allo" (for reasons of spelling something or other) and got this result at the top of the page, all unexpectedly:
Allo Allo actor Sam Kelly dies aged 70
:-(
I loved him most as Sam in On The Up, but for my sister and me, watching Allo Allo when we were little, Hans was always our favourite.

Date: 2014-06-17 03:13 pm (UTC)Somebody over at the Mausoleum Club remembered him with this quote from "On The Up":
- "Will you join me in a glass, Sam?"
- "I don't think we'd both fit in one, Mrs Wembley."
He and Joan Sims made a good team!

Date: 2014-06-17 04:37 pm (UTC)I think there was just a quality that he had that made him always feel very lovable on screen. (Probably not that time he played Hitler, but that's a thing I'm never watching because I don't think I could cope.) On The Up was something I watched a lot because my sister fell in love with it (specifically with Jenna Russell, really) and it kind of rubbed off on me, because I really like Sam Kelly in it; Joan Sims, too.

Aw. Bob Larbey died earlier in the year, too, didn't he, so RIP & thanks to all three people involved in that exchange. :-/

Date: 2014-06-17 04:40 pm (UTC)On The Up was one of those comedies nobody ever seems to remember, but my sister absolutely loved it. It was her favourite TV show, and she had a handful of episodes saved on VHS, so I saw it more often than you'd expect, and it did stand up quite well to enforced repeated vewing, especially Sam Kelly & Joan Sims, so yes.
