thisbluespiritI said I was going to rewrite those questions, didn't I? So, here we are - the 12 characters meme as recreated by yours truly. I kept an odd question or two (and stole others from other memes I have known), but it now has slightly less shipping, fewer questions that can be answered by yes or no and hopefully more even use of the 12 characters. For everything else, I'm sorry, but I at least did test drive it personally first... /o\

Given that Malcolm's around in the early 21st and Mary's in the early 20th, it's got to be time travel (and then Malcolm has to enlist Mary's help to fix whatever technical meddling brought them together).

Where would 9 [the Sixth Doctor] take 5 [Miss Marple] on a date?
I think it has to be a nice, genteel tea-shop. People give Six Looks, but it's not as if he's bothered. It is a quiet but enjoyable date, and then they go solve crime and Miss Marple is apologetically more awesome than Six. He pretends he's annoyed about this, but he's probably going to ask her if she also makes chocolate cake and if she'd like to travel with him.
2 [Orac] and 4 [Ace] are now buddy cops. Do they make a good team & is this bad or good news for nearby criminals?
They would be, if they could work together, a scarily effective team, but it depends a lot on what Orac's up to, and if Ace is undercover for reasons of her own. If the nearby criminals are, say, called Vila and Avon, then it is probably a good day for them (probably ;-p). Ace would be a good cop, except for her tendency to get suspended due to blowing stuff up. Orac would not, but knowing nearly everything does compensate for some things.
Make up a summary for an apocalyptic fic featuring 5 [Miss Marple] and 10 [Rupert Giles].
It's the end of the world (again) if Rupert Giles doesn't stop it, and this time the only help he has is a little old lady who knows how to knit. The demons have never been so terrified.
If 3 [Regina Mills] and 7 [The Master] were a couple, how would they meet and would it work out?
Well, I suppose the Master would naturally be interested in what sort of powers could cause Storybrooke to exist, and he'd be happy to pretend an interest in Regina to find out about it, and she was pretty bored during those 26 years. I don't think it'd work out, though. All the Master wants is to learn how to cast a curse to trap the Doctor... And there's no way Regina's going to sacrifice anyone (especially not Henry) for somebody else's revenge. Nor can I imagine her being too easy to hypnotise, so at that point it all went pear-shaped. Not that it was ever really, er, apple-shaped to begin with.

I don't know where they'd be heading, but it's obviously important, possibly a Hellmouth. They're all sensible sorts (mostly) so they opted to share the driving until the Doctor's first turn, after which it was decided that Ros and Giles would share the driving and that Ros would shoot the Doctor if he attempted to take the steering wheel again. The Doctor was obviously the one who got left behind, which could have been for reasons of his own, because he kept asking if they were nearly there yet or because the sonic screwdriver plays havoc with the car's systems. Giles and Ros reach the Hellmouth and Ros kills things with forks.
In a coffee shop type AU with 9 [Sixth Doctor] and 4 [Ace], what would their establishment be called?
Nitro Nights. It'd be vegetarian, and strangely prone to fires in the kitchen. The chocolate cake would be impressive and plentiful and carrot juice would be banned.
What would the title be for a romance novel/film featuring 7 [The Master] and 12 [Harry Sullivan]?
Saved by a Sailor? Er. It'd probably be something weirder than that but my brain failed me.
If forced to choose, would you rather have an evening out with 1 [Eight] or 11 [Mary Crawley]?
Oh, well it'd have to be Eight, really. I don't think Mary would think very much of me.
What's your favourite pairing (romantic or otherwise) for Regina Mills?
I really like lots of Regina's canon relationships - I think that she has so many interesting relations with people is probably one reason why I like her. I'll confess, though, I really do like Regina/Emma in fandom. (It's the reverse of my usual problem, which is there being no fanworks for my pairing/character. In this case, there's two thousand or so but I can't find any I like very easily. I'm pernickety.)

Somehow I suspect it's down to Eight or Mary. Miss Marple would probably be more interested in backstage mysteries, Harry's not exactly competitive, and I don't know what show-biz type talents they might have. Eight could no doubt pull off a magician's act or an escape routine and Mary can sing. I think Mary might win because she's the one who's likely to want it the most. She'd probably be willing to resort to some cheating if she really felt like it, too.
Aliens try to make 2 [Orac], 6 [Malcolm] and 12 [Harry] do it. Do they have any luck?
No, I don't think they do somehow. Malcolm would be very interested in Orac, though. But not like that. Of course, if the aliens are trying to make them do something technical, Malcolm and Orac would be a crack team and Harry would try to be as helpful as possible.
What might 1 [Eight] say to compliment 5 [Miss Marple]?
You're the best detective I've ever met? Or possibly, "You know, that may very well be the best cup of tea I've ever had! And what splendid knitting. You'll have to teach me how to turn a heel. I never did quite get the hang of it."
What would 10 [Giles] hate most about 2 [Orac]? And what would 9 [Six] love most about 10 [Giles]?
Well, Giles never was that fond of computers, let alone an uppity one with a worrying habit of trying to kill people when it's bored. I don't know if Six and Giles could get along without some arguing, but they'd both be able to bond on the subject of tea, books, saving the world etc.
If you had to write a crossover involving 6 [Malcolm Wynn-Jones] and 4 [Ace], how would it go and/or what would the crossover fandom be?
Oh, it would definitely involve saving the world from aliens/terrorists while blowing things up and Malcolm advising Ace on how to make nitro 9 pack even more of a punch.

For reasons, the Master poses as one of Mary's suitors, but is having a bad day and coming off as less than his usual debonair self. Although given that Mary minds hanging round a pig-sty less than you'd imagine, maybe it all works out.

Well, it's probably a magical item that needs retrieving and while their would no doubt be difficulties and shenanigans (and snarking at each other), that's a pretty effective team.

Well, probably doomed. Although somehow I can't help but suspect that the Master doesn't really want to 'save' the world anyway, so he's probably just lying to fool the Doctor when he claims she needs to be stopped. I'm on Ros's side.

I think, with me, I tend not to read explicit stuff which excludes a lot, and I won't read things that are badly written or OOC, and then among the rest there are a lot of AUs. I think the other thing is that shippers en masse tend to assume their pairing, if that makes sense? And I'd like to see the how and why and awkwardness and snark explored fully, not just "obviously they are a couple - now have some smut/fluff/angst!" I don't know.

Date: 2014-07-30 10:03 am (UTC)For me part of the problem is that I didn't see the ship until 1x22 or so – it's not that I thought it was unexplainable why people did ship it or that I'd refuse to read fic or anything, but for myself I thought they neither like each other, nor do they have that intensity and weirdly personal dislike that makes me ship enemy-ships (at least on Emma's side: I thought she seemed sincerely uninterested in Regina, though after seeing her interact with Hook in season two I could easily be convinced she was just shielding herself).
And then I did ship it – in the sense that now I would be fine with fic where their affection is a given, though I'd still want it explored – but by then there was already an established fanon based on season one fic, you know? And it's not necessarily bad or out there fanon, but with fic for something this popular there's always people reacting to fics and fic trends and basing things on ideas from fic, so it feels like getting into a conversation late and not being able to follow.

And I'm not sure where I started seeing the ship - I watched S1 on DVD quite quickly, but it probably was at a similar point, though I couldn't even go looking for fic till I was safely through S2, and I was months behind the US. :-/

(I confess that the question was originally for Eight and Harry but I realised I had two Mary Crawley and the Master questions, so I needed to swap the numbers round, and could not at that late point be bothered with coming up with a more Masterly title. It just really, really would also go pear-shaped. Probably involving getting the Doctor to save him from Regina in the process. He never learns, does he? :-)

It's also making me think that I really, really need to get back to that DW/OUaT crossover I stalled out on, in which neither the Master nor Rumplestiltskin learn, and the Master, indeed, spends a lot of time going, "Pffft, that's obviously not magic."

Date: 2014-08-03 04:27 pm (UTC)And Spooks isn't easy watching. I confess I tend to watch certain episodes more than rewatching as a whole, because you have to be able to cope with the angst and stuff. And I find S2 and S4 easier than S1 and 3. (Everything improves once Ruth walks in the door!!)
Aw, I don't think I know much about her other than Ros, but that is a wonderful story.

Date: 2014-08-04 03:50 pm (UTC)I didn't even mention past S4 because it's only recently (while I've been too ill to watch Spooks very much at all) that I've acquired any of the later series on DVD for rewatching ease. So I don't know how they stand up - I'm looking forward to having a good rewatch when I can. (I've not got anything past S6 yet, though - bit pointless asking for them until I'm capable of watching them. Soon, though...)
