There is some good to this old TV watching of mine. Have some pretty pics of a fez-wearing Roger Delgado in Espionage (ITC 1963).



Roger Delgado as a fez-wearing revolutionary who has good motives, but does want to assassinate his president. Still, why not? Why shouldn't he be allowed to do what he wants to do?






(The other guy here is probably wondering, as most of us do, how does Roger Delgado even exist? Did exist. Whatever. No, let's not think about that bit.)

(Sorry. I get a little unreliable if I gaze at pics of Roger Delgado for long. What was I saying??)

I like the fez. In "The Champions" he wore a turban when his country was revolting, but I think the fez suits him better.

Oh. My. God. I used to watch the Champions as a little girl. It was on far too late, so I'd sneak down from my bedroom, while my grandmother and mother were in the kitchen, and go to the livingroom where the television was, sit in the dark, two inches from the television, so that I didn't have to turn the sound up, and watch The Champions that way. I still remember the smell of ozone from putting my face so close to the screen.

It may have something to do with my eyesight now ... but ... The Champions!!

It's an excellent show. One of the ones that has aged well, and has a genuinely good cast. I'd certainly recommend it for a re-watch!

He looks good in either case, although British TV really should have made some effort at not always casting him as dodgy 'Arabs'. /o\ (He was also a dodgy Arab in The Power Game yesterday, though not with a fez or anything on his head.)

Yes, you'd think that the name would be a hint as to his cultural origins! But he had that "foreign" look about him that old TV seemed to think was entirely interchangeable. Personally I'd have cast him as a dashing hero, preferably in a period drama, but apparently he did enjoy playing bad guys. He's a good guy in his episode of "The Champions" though, so at least he's not dodgy in that.

Absolutely. It's 1963. While the Doctor was hanging about in Totters Lane, the Master was starting revolutions in the Middle East and getting his own fez way before the Doctor ever thought of it. :-D

Wow. That's some serious eyebrow. Without his beard and mustache, he reminds me very much of some other actor, and of course I can't even remember who right now. It's been a long day. But thank you for putting this up. I needed it!
