I think it's fair to say I'm pretty depressed right now & it is about time to cease the wallowing in despair and things, really. Shall we try a meme?

The Jamie & Zoe one is The Wheel of Ice by Stephen Baxter, a Penguin Ace book. Dust jacket calls it "an all-new Doctor Who adventure," so I think it's not a straight novelisation of a serial, though that doesn't tell me anything about how spoilery it is.

There are also three Broadway Paperbacks with Matt Smith on the cover. Matt Smith is my current Doctor, so even though these are also "all-new adventures," I will not try to read them until I finish out his run (also, one of them has Clara, who I have not met yet).

I LOVE ANGST. Doctor Angst is some pretty high-quality angst in my experience.

Haha. I lived through the 90s when the only canon we had was the New Adventures and they were set on making every past companion die and suffer without end. And then it changed to BBC Books, except they wound up no more cheerful and killed a few old companions who had managed to survive the first set. There are limits! (Or, no, it seems not...)

Now I feel bad for saying that I love angst. I DO, but companions should live long and happy lives; the lifespan mismatch is already enough of an angstportunity without adding any bonus suffering. :(

Give a Doctor Who fan a book to write and they do terrible, terrible things. But out of the NAs came everything else, as some little known people wrote for them, like Russell T Davies, Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Ben Aaronovitch, Paul Cornell and Gareth Roberts.

(Except not to Ian and Barbara. Nobody would go that far.)

David McIntee wanted to kill Barbara, but they wouldn't let him. They were prepared to let him kill Polly instead, but apparently that wouldn't have done at all.

LOL. Why am I not surprised? Although, see, even the NA editing team baulked at going that far! Not Ian and Babs... ;-)

I've read that. Unlike the BBC books, it doesn't do horrible things to the Doctor or the companions, and I don't think it has that many spoilers. Though there were a few references to The Mind Robber while Zoe is babysitting.
