INTERVIEWER: So, Lost Spook, you write Doctor Who fan fic?

LS: Yes.

INT: So what's the Doctor getting up to in your current fic?

LS: Um. He's not in it.

INT: So it's about a companion, then, or you're a TARDIS kind of girl?

LS: No....

INT: Well, scrap that. What about your last story?

LS: No. That just had Queen Victoria and Disraeli.

INT: The one before that?

LS: Erm.... No.... It did have Sarah Jane and K9, though. And Bambera.

INT: Then what on Gallifrey ARE you writing about?

LS: Okay, it's about a character who was on screen for oooh... five minutes in 1983. And a lot of original characters. But it is about UNIT, so there are cups of tea and explosions and alien slime. Even if not much else happens and Torchwood hang around and are a bit evil.

INT: I thought you said you write DW fan fic?

LS: Well, I do. Ish.

INT: Do you have any friends who do?

LS: Lots.

INT: Well, give me their names. This isn't any use.

LS: Does it help if it has a time traveller?

INT: If their name begins with 'The' or Romana, yes.

LS: So, not if it's a stray Victorian housemaid, then?

INT: What did you say your friends' names were?

LS (as INT races off in a cloud of dust): Is no one interested in history??!!!

LOL! This whole thing made me smile, but I especially love the last line. As for being a "fraud," isn't the whole point of fanfic telling the stories that you want told? Wear your originality with pride! At least you're not writing Doctor/Rose reunion fic. I haven't had much chance to read fanfic lately, but I am hoping to catch up at some point with your stories, and I love your tendency to explore the more obscure characters. In fact, maybe there should be a one-off-character ficathon!

Well, I always think original fic is the stories I want told and fan fic should have some sort of appeal to fellow fans and not be a sneaky means of smuggling in original fic in disguise. Therefore, um, whoops!

Anyway, I know you've been busy! Very, very busy. I must catch up with Turn Left. (Do you know, I have about 3 very good fics I left and I've just worked out why I haven't been back to them and it's this: they all feature current Sarah Jane and whoever with Harry. And no matter how well done - and yours is lovely - I just don't believe in Harry still being around these days. I must learn the meaning of AU and not deprive myself of good Harry stories, don't you think? :lol:)

Mind you, I also like my tendency to run off with one-off characters. I think more people should do that! Only when in this case we're talking Colonel Crichton from the Five Doctors, there isn't technically a character to run off with!!

No, no, fan fic is supposed to have charccters from that fandom in it. Not dig around for the obscurest possible people. Original fic has the OCs in.
