I had nothing particular lined up for today's 'naart', so took up the (probably not-at-all-serious) requests/suggestions my flisters helpfully made for things that should have sparkly icons. (And don't worry; I do realise that none of the suggestions was made in an 'I want to use that icon' sense!)

For pitry, who thought Spike should be sparkly (under a cut for mild language - it is Spike we're talking about here:


For belantana, who wanted Sparkly Spooks. (And I'm sorry; I was tired when I made these and it shows, but they were a joke really!) I only have caps from 2.05 (and some somewhere from 2.06), but sparkly action! spooks, happy sparkly spooks, and sparkly Ruth:



And justice_turtle's suggestion (not particularly sparkle-related, but I put some in anyway) that I do a Silver icon with a Star Trek quote about Q. (And I am just sorry that as it turned out, I had no suitable cap of him with that tambourine to make it funnier!):



And, actually, barring maybe doing some more textures, I'm not sure what to do for the remaining 9 or so days - does anyone have any more suggestions/requests? (I know I'm hardly the world's best icon-maker, but even so, any ideas/requests, or provide me with a cap and I'll see if I can fit it into the remainder of naarmamo. Or just give me a fandom/character and a prompt/quote to challenge me.

It has taken me 22 days to run out of ideas, but I think I just about have, so I'd actually be grateful. Shoot - no guarantees I'll make the icon, or that you'll like it, but I'll try my best!

As for Avon icons, try here for some by sallymn, who is also doing naarmamo, so I'd rather avoid B7 - in fact the loveliness of those are why I generally just do B7 quote icons anyway.

I don't have any caps for the others, so if you can point me in the right direction, I'll see. You might want to suggest some quotes for Snape - I've read all the books and seen most of the films, but not to the degree of quotes.

Given my total lack of ability at getting very tiny pics to be at all clear, I can answer that one with about three or four at the most, if that! (Sorry, like I said, my icon-making skills have progressed, but are still sadly lacking in places.) :lol:

It must be bunnies! Hmm, I don't think I *have* any suitable bunny pics, but I suppose I could see if I could find some that are snaggable somewhere.

Three or four sounds like quite a few Doctors to me :) And your icon-making skills are amazing in comparison to mine - all I can do is crop and shrink.

Aw, thanks. Mind, you seem to be better able to shrink without losing clarity than I do - althouhg I will be clumsy with curves and contrast and things, which doesn't help.

And - I make no promises - but I just had a little light-bulb moment about Doctors. But it may go horribly wrong, in which case I'll have to find a bunny-wabbit somewhere. ;-)

(Oh, and I knew there was something I forgot to go back to on my flist - congrats on getting through the move!)

I love the Spike icon! Also, I have to ask, since you put it under a cut for language -- just how much of a swear word is "bloody" in the UK? Where does it rank in the list of swear words?

Want to know why Spike said "bloody" all the time? Because here in the US, it's meaningless. It's a cute little British swear word that carries no weight at all. The writers could use it freely, just like the Battlestar Galactica writers could use "frak" whenever and however they liked without worrying about censors.

Yeah... 'bloody's quite an odd one, because it isn't that bad, but I think some people might still find it offensive. (My Mum would be shocked if I used it in conversation at home, but then my parents don't use almost any swearing at all - and so I don't really, except when I'm writing characters who would. I use bloody as my get out swear word when writing UNIT soldiers, lol!) I thought better to put it under a cut than not, just in case.

It was also the one you used to use as children: i.e. "That bloody axe!" /"John Smith, don't you swear at me!"/ "No, miss, I mean it's got blood all over it - it's bloody." You could use it in its literal sense and get away with it. And a big thrill it was, too.

(Spike uses some words that wouldn't get past the censors here, not pre-9pm. I mean, 'bint' is derogative, horribly racist slang for woman, or black woman - although it's getting more common in TV here now, I've noticed, which is weird - it must be losing the racist overtones. But Spike used it a lot years before that & I'd wince a bit each time, because I don't think they'd picked up on the racism involved.)

I didn't know that about "bint," and I'm guessing Buffy's writers didn't either (although I would've hoped they'd run their scripts past a Britpicker, or maybe Anthony Head since they had him right there). "Bint" is a word that is so meaningless here, most people don't even know what it means. If that makes sense. That is, "bloody" is at least a known (if unused) expletive, like "lift" for elevator, but "bint"? That can get you blank stares. I think I first learned the word from Monty Python, and assumed it couldn't be that bad because it was in Monty Python. Like a British version of "chick" or something. I had absolutely no idea there was any racial connotation to it at all, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Buffy writers didn't either. (Some of them are probably Monty Python fans too.) Or maybe they thought it didn't matter since they were writing for American audiences? I wonder how much thought they put into possible worldwide distribution back in those days?

Oh yes, smeg! That's a wonderful one. It really conveys what it means. *g* Although I do have to point out that frak came first -- it was in the original Battlestar Galactica. They also had "feldercarb" which was a milder swear word than "frak." I still remember what a novel concept made-up swear words were. I was a young teen at the time, and it was like, "They can do that?" Frak and feldercarb became very popular words to use at school. : )

Yeah. I'm suspecting it was already a bit obscure and is now being used back because of Spike. I can't remember how I knew it & what the connotations were now (but I am right, because the word's origin is African - I want to say Swahili, but I'd have to check - so I'm guessing it got used in an English context from soldiers & other colonials having African mistresses). It's way too uncommon to be something like 'chick' - a sort of racist version of 'bitch' maybe. But like I said, I think it might have been obscure - I hadn't heard it used on TV really, other than Spike (and since). Slang and swearing doesn't really travel or translate much, I think.

I'd just been managing to watch some Red Dwarf. It was in my mind... :-)

Because it's a daily thing (and my energy is limited) I don't think I could do a picspam, as it takes too long. I'll see if I can do a couple of icons or something from the caps I have, (although I don't have that many).
