I really am working through my overdue posts here (\o/). A small post of some icons I made, and a few fic recs for Liz Shaw, in tribute. I started this at the time, but was interrupted by my parents' visit and the resulting tiredness. The recs are more of a list, this once. (But they are all very good, I promise.)
Liz Icons

Liz Fic recs
Edge of the Universe by
phantomlistener
(All ages, 440 words. Liz, Three.) She wants to see the world in the same way he does. He knows someone else who had that ability - or perhaps that should be 'will know', because the memories aren't entirely clear.
Five Places the Doctor Never Took Liz Shaw by
eponymous_rose
(All ages, 2080 words. Liz, Three. AU). Liz Shaw has always prided herself on her ability to entertain several hypotheses without leaning too heavily one way or the other – blind faith is anathema to her nature.
All These Things That We've Done by
netgirl_y2k
(All ages, 1963 words. Liz, Three, Brigadier. AU.) The one where the Brigadier and Liz Shaw travel as companions to the Third Doctor.
All These Things That We've Done (The Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow Remix) by
atraphoenix
(All ages, 3516 words. Liz, Three, Brigadier. AU.) “Another world, Doctor! You've brought Miss Shaw and myself to another world without even asking for our consent!” (Remix of the above.)
Five Things Alistair Learned While Traveling (Memento Temporis Radio Edit) by Aris Merquoni
(All ages, 1562 words. Liz, Three, Brigadier. AU.) Doctor Liz Shaw and Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart may have been unintentionally separated from Earth until the Doctor could get them home, but the both of them were keeping their eyes peeled for new experiences. (Another remix for 'All These Things'.)
Memory by
persiflage_1
(All ages, 3481 words. Liz, Eight.) A decade after she left UNIT, Liz encounters the Doctor again.
A Break From the Norm by Gary Merchant
(All ages, 797 words. Liz, Two.) A young woman finds she has much in common with someone she meets at a conference.
House Guest by Gary Merchant
(All ages, 4141 words. Liz, Three, Brigadier.) Liz Shaw persuades the Doctor to go house hunting, with unexpected consequences.
For Secret's Sake by stunt_muppet
(Teen, 1067 words. Brig/Liz.) This is something different; this is something just for them. Post-Season 7, after Liz leaves.
Moving Forward by Settiai
(PG, 5025 words. Brig/Liz.) Sometimes all a person can do is move forward and hope for the best.
Going Home by phantomlistener
(Teen, 8143 words. Liz, Three, Sarah Jane Smith, Brigadier, Patricia Haggard (PROBE), Clyde Langer, Tenth Doctor). A life can't be summed in a few tiny moments, but it can, possibly, be understood. Elizabeth Shaw through the years. Crossover with the Dr Who spin-off P.R.O.B.E. but no prior knowledge of it is required.

ETA: And for those who don't follow
dw_straybunnies, this month's challenge is Liz Shaw and there are lots of Liz-centric prompts up there to steal and write (or just any Liz fic). There has been one so far (\o/) and so I have prepared a banner for participants. (And I want one myself now...)

Date: 2012-07-11 04:26 pm (UTC)Going to snag that icon of Liz and the Brig beside the TARDIS - because that moment when it starts shaking and she looks somewhat alarmed is always so funny!
*goes away to read fic and hopes she won't cry too much*

Date: 2012-07-11 08:03 pm (UTC)Thanks - I had fun writing it.
I haven't seen all of them! (Thanks for the tissues)

Date: 2012-07-11 04:58 pm (UTC)I really want to write something for the prompts (there are some really good ones, too!) but nothing I try seems to work. Which is sad, because...well...Liz :(
(ugh, just noticed I'm in my RP journal, can't be bothered to sign out and in again - brunhilde_1013/phantomlistener commenting!)

Date: 2012-07-11 08:02 pm (UTC)And, no problem, I really enjoyed reading them the other week - they were lovely, really spot-on Liz.
And as for the challenge, well there is still time yet! And it can be any Liz fic; it doesn't have to be one of the prompts. (The banner is Quite Pretty, if I do say so myself. ;-p)

Date: 2012-07-11 06:18 pm (UTC)(Although... for some reason I remember the first Pertwee season was in B&W? Am I wrong?)
no subject
Date: 2012-07-11 08:05 pm (UTC)No, all of Pertwee was made in colour. The BBC didn't keep all of the colour copies (you know how careless they were back in the 70s), so there are some of his stories that only exist in b&w, including some episodes of Ambassadors of
DEATH
from S7* (and the whole of The Mind of Evil from S8, and ep1 of Invasion of the Dinosaurs). But they have managed to colorize most of the others - I hear the upcoming Ambassadors DVD is fully colorized!
(I always have to write it like that, sorry.)

Date: 2012-07-12 04:18 pm (UTC)One question I've always wondered about Liz that you might know the answer to was did they always use her real hair or give her wigs? As it seemed to go through some quite dramatic changes.
no subject
Date: 2012-07-12 08:13 pm (UTC)Heh, I don't know for sure, but i think she just had her hair cut halfway through. It looks really different in Ambassadors, but she was only wearing a hat in it to stop her hair going frizzy. The Inferno!verse Liz, though, definitely had a wig! (I can go that far.)

Date: 2012-07-13 08:57 am (UTC)Hehe the dark hair did look nice (and evil) though :) I totally understand her plight of frizzy hair!

Date: 2012-07-13 11:58 am (UTC)We had one once when they installed new security software, accidentally got it set too high and I couldn't even get onto our site for book selection, or anything. (Things were blocked for "cultural content". And, yeah. They never remember the Public Network, or the fact that if you're a children's librarian, you have sensible excuses for going on publisher's websites, looking for activities, checking out games children can use etc etc. But they usually back down the second the public starts rioting over lack of hotmail or something.
(O happy days. ;-D)

Date: 2012-11-27 12:52 pm (UTC)And, no, I think it was just a nice cap and I merely lightened it and emphasised the red a bit. But I don't really remember; there may have been some colour/texture layers, but again mainly for lightening rather than colour. (I would be v rubbish at icon tutorials!)
