I really am working through my overdue posts here (\o/). A small post of some icons I made, and a few fic recs for Liz Shaw, in tribute. I started this at the time, but was interrupted by my parents' visit and the resulting tiredness. The recs are more of a list, this once. (But they are all very good, I promise.)

Going to snag that icon of Liz and the Brig beside the TARDIS - because that moment when it starts shaking and she looks somewhat alarmed is always so funny!

I really want to write something for the prompts (there are some really good ones, too!) but nothing I try seems to work. Which is sad, because...well...Liz :(

Oh, all these people with secret identities! I did wonder for a minute, there. ;-)

And, no problem, I really enjoyed reading them the other week - they were lovely, really spot-on Liz.

And as for the challenge, well there is still time yet! And it can be any Liz fic; it doesn't have to be one of the prompts. (The banner is Quite Pretty, if I do say so myself. ;-p)

No, all of Pertwee was made in colour. The BBC didn't keep all of the colour copies (you know how careless they were back in the 70s), so there are some of his stories that only exist in b&w, including some episodes of Ambassadors of

DEATH

from S7* (and the whole of The Mind of Evil from S8, and ep1 of Invasion of the Dinosaurs). But they have managed to colorize most of the others - I hear the upcoming Ambassadors DVD is fully colorized!

Thanks for the icons/recs post and for mentioning the dw_straybunnies post. At some point, I need to get back to my Liz meets Harriet Jones fic. Liz was my favorite classic companion. So clever and competent. I blame seeing the PBS reruns when I was in a "need more Who" mood. I love the UNIT years.

Lovely! The blocked LJ at my work which is why I've been so quiet lately. But it seems to be working again now :)

One question I've always wondered about Liz that you might know the answer to was did they always use her real hair or give her wigs? As it seemed to go through some quite dramatic changes.

I used to find the council I worked for would go through phases like that. Then they get complaints from everyone who can't get onto sites they actually need to use, and a reminder that, btw, they have a Public Network where people actually have a right to use non-dodgy sites even if they are not purely educational/business-centered. *rolls eyes*

Heh, I don't know for sure, but i think she just had her hair cut halfway through. It looks really different in Ambassadors, but she was only wearing a hat in it to stop her hair going frizzy. The Inferno!verse Liz, though, definitely had a wig! (I can go that far.)

Yeah, I'd always heard how bad council's IT was but didn't quite believe it till I started working here! It's especially hard when you're a librarian and so much research you have to do online. The public PCs are even worse. :( But I'm very glad it's back now.

Hehe the dark hair did look nice (and evil) though :) I totally understand her plight of frizzy hair!

Yes. I think, as is the case with a lot of organisations, IT tends to have been set up in the days when only about two people had pcs, and it just never quite gets to expand to cope with the demand. Especially in Councils, and in times of cuts like these. And then every so often someone will come up with the 'wasting time on dodgy sites' panics (or a virus got through) and then they clamp down.

We had one once when they installed new security software, accidentally got it set too high and I couldn't even get onto our site for book selection, or anything. (Things were blocked for "cultural content". And, yeah. They never remember the Public Network, or the fact that if you're a children's librarian, you have sensible excuses for going on publisher's websites, looking for activities, checking out games children can use etc etc. But they usually back down the second the public starts rioting over lack of hotmail or something.

For me i think coming from universities that prided themselves on their IT and electronic resources in the library it was a huge shock. I keep waiting for them to tell me I spend too much time on amazon! But that's where I have to buy all my books from cause of the crazy purchasing system they have in place.

My recollection (and I don't remember where this information comes from, so take it with a pinch of salt) is that it's her own hair in Spearhead and Silurians. But it took a lot of trouble to make it behave, so they switched to wigs for Ambassadors and Inferno.

I think that's along the lines of what I was thinking. I'm usually pretty good at detecting wigs. But I didn't even realise the Brig's moustache was fake for years *doh*

And, no, I think it was just a nice cap and I merely lightened it and emphasised the red a bit. But I don't really remember; there may have been some colour/texture layers, but again mainly for lightening rather than colour. (I would be v rubbish at icon tutorials!)
