Obscure & British Commentfest 2015
May. 16th, 2015 09:58 amWelcome to the Obscure & British comment fest III! This is a comment fest for any small(ish) British fandom and open to all fanworks.

If you've ever loved any (non-large) British fandoms, find yourself too obscure for most fests, or you're busy wondering why there's still no Emma Peel in all this Avengers stuff, you're in the right place. Come on in and help yourself to a cup of tea and a crumpet. Also you should make prompts and fill them.
Rules & Guidelines
This comment!fest works in the same way as most comment ficathons - although all kinds of fanworks are definitely welcome here. (Fanart, icons, fanmixes, vids, whatever your creative mind can come up with.)
1. Be polite - no bashing of anyone, any prompts, characters, ships or fandoms! Thank you.
2. One prompt per post, please use format: Fandom, Character/Pairing, prompt. You may repost prompts from previous years (or even from elsewhere, as long as that's okay with the other fest/comm/whatever).
3. Post fills as replies (or links) to the comment containing the prompt. Please format the subject line as follows: Fandom - Character/Pairing - Rating/Warnings (if needed). There's a fills thread at the start of the post. Please also link your fill here.
4. You may fill your own prompts if you wish. Multiple fills are more than welcome. (Please don't 'claim' prompts! Simply create your fill, and come back and post it here. In the unlikely event someone else has got in first, well, everyone profits from more fannish content in a rare/medium fandom!)
5. For crossovers any fandom is allowed as long as the first fandom qualifies. (If it's a cracky multi-fandom crossover prompt, that's fine, too, though try and make sure there are always equal or more eligible fandoms in proportion to those that are non-eligible.)
6. Any other questions - there's a questions thread at the start of the post.
7. Prompt, fill, away!
Eligible Fandoms
Basically, any non-large British fandom at all! You can prompt for anything that fits, no matter how odd, old or obscure, or shiny and new - anything that's not on the below list is great.
Non-eligible fandoms
ALL non-British fandoms are ineligible (except as crossovers) and the following fandoms are British but too large and therefore ineligible for this fest (sorry):
Chronicles of Narnia (all), Doctor Who (2005+), Downton Abbey, Harry Potter, The Hobbit (all), James Bond (Craig!Bond films only), Lord of the Rings (all), Merlin, One Direction, Primeval, Robin Hood (BBC), Sherlock (BBC), Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle, The Silmarillion, Skins (UK), Torchwood.
(RPF is welcome! Please just use specific categories when prompting (e.g. history by century, and all actor/bandom RPF by individual series/film/band). In the spirit of the fest, please try and avoid RPF for the non-eligible shows above, or super-popular actors like Tom Hiddleston or Benedict Cumberbatch.)
Anything British not listed above is more than welcome here! British TV, films, books, history, comedy, RPF, plays, songs, radio dramas, folklore, mythology, anthropomorphic - it's all good, and there's absolutely no such thing as too obscure or too odd.
There's no closing date for prompts or fills - the fest will stay open until next year's post goes up. Once you've created a fill, you're welcome to crosspost it anywhere you like. (If you're posting to AO3, there's no collection for the fest, but there is an "Obscure & British Commentfest" tag you can use if you want.)
If you want to promote the fest, then thank you! Please do. You can find a selection of banners here, or feel free to make your own.
(You can also find last year's fest here and the 2013 post here. If you want to fill a previous prompt, do feel free, although please also post to the fills thread on the current post rather than the previous editions.)
ETA: Masterlist of fills here.
Also, anon commenting is now actually on! (Sorry to anyone who tried while I only thought I had it on. It's fixed now.)

"If I were to find a skeleton hanging in the cupboard of my room - or any other - I suppose I must believe that the owner was a medical man or a natural philosopher of absent minded habits. I cannot conceive that the bones of a corpse would remain hanging together when all else was gone, or that even the most careless of housekeepers could notice other no sign of its presence. But I am persuaded, my lord, that you could not wish me to cause Marianne to think on such things in her condition."
"Your knowledge, as always, is all-encompassing," Gervase said, smiling at her teasingly. "I would own myself curious to know how you came by it, were it not that I would then be causing you to think on such things in your condition, and I am sure I should not."

Date: 2015-05-16 04:45 pm (UTC)He hadn’t been surprised when she hadn’t come.
The lack of a card, or present, was hardly a surprise either. It was very Maddie. The only present he could imagine her sending would have been a signed copy of her latest book. (He has them all, hidden away in a corner, Polly doesn’t mention them and he never needs to explain).
It is a surprise when he finally sees her again.
“Wife?!?” Maddie laughs, shaking her head as she dumps another packet of sugar into her cup. Some things never change.
“Yup, wife.” Jonathan slouches in his seat, the cheap vinyl almost alien to him.
“Can’t say I ever saw that one coming.” She comments, still not making eye contact.
“Well, I sent you an invite to the wedding.” He glances sideways out the window, at the still falling rain.
“Did you? I’m sorry Jonathan, but I didn’t receive it. I would never have passed up the chance to see you in a proper suit.” Maddie looks up at him then, grinning. “I’m sure your parents were over the moon.”
Jonathan cringes, “Yeah, first time in a while that they actually agreed with my life choices.”
“You managed to convince a woman to live in that God awful windmill?” Maddie asked, picking up her bacon roll, ketchup dripping out on one side drawing his eye.
“No, I sold it actually, too small for two.” He misses it sometimes, he grew up in that windmill, and he’s living in his wife’s childhood home. “Lived in the city for a while, now we’re in the country.”
Maddie watches him, eyes narrowed while she chews. The silence is heavy as he waits for her to pass comment. “Any kids?”
Jonathan frowns, “No. Well not yet.” Her eyebrows raise and he glares.
“Fair enough.” Maddie places the remains of her roll on the plate carefully, “You see, I heard,” she makes a vague hand gesture, “from people, that you stopped the magic tricks. Worked in the city.”
Jonathan smiles, “It’s true. I heard things about you too, you know.” He dares her to ask what he heard, and she sticks her tongue out.
“I have no idea how you don’t drive her up the wall.” Maddie shakes her head, “No way you can resist mysteries.”
He laughs, “She can’t resist either. She’s as bad as you, in some ways, wants to figure it out herself, hates to have me spoil it.”
Maddie smiles, it’s a little sad, but Jonathan doesn’t comment, “You really love her? Good for you.”
Jonathan smiles, “Thanks. I just got lucky, in the end.”
(Written on spot, because I couldn’t not, so apologies for any glaring errors – and I always seem to default to Maddie rather than Maddy)

Date: 2015-05-16 01:24 pm (UTC)Just this once
Date: 2015-05-27 05:09 am (UTC)“Just this once will you please listen to me!” It was the familiar demand the Doctor made when he knew he was losing an argument that he wanted to win.
But she was done arguing with him. There was no turning back. She had made her decision. Tegan continued her pace towards the door of the large warehouse that he had brought her too.
“I'm sorry, Doc, but I've made up my mind!”
The Doctor had had enough of this! “Won't you reconsider?” The Doctor said plunging his hands in his coat pockets; searching for the elusive cricket ball.
It was then that Tegan quickly turned around and quickly closed the distance between them; her eyes blazing with hellfire. Oh how he loved how it burned him. It's why he did thing like this to her. “No! I won't agree to buy this warehouse as one of your idea of teaching Troy how to play cricket.”
The Timelord was insane if he thought for one moment that she'd allow their twelve year old son to spend time in this dusty and smelly warehouse. It would be another weekend family project that would end up in them never finish--
He kissed her. Just out of the blue he had pulled her close and then her thoughts trailed off into nothing.
He felt her anger being extinguished as he gathered the Earth woman who could quite possibly conquer the universe with a glare. The Master where ever he was would be quite disappointed in not capturing such a rare creature and delighting in watching her anger turn into passion. Yes, she was quarrelsome, stubborn but when her body melded against his own...if he had let her go all those years ago...he wouldn't have felt heaven burning as it was now.
Tegan opened her eyes and saw that her husband was watching her after he finished kissing her. He had taken away her advantage. Her anger was quenched and there wasn't even a single thought of escaping going through her mind.
She sighed, grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the door.
“Well?”
Tegan stopped in her tracks and glanced over her shoulder at him and said; “Just this once.”

Date: 2015-05-18 09:30 pm (UTC)As he paddled to the shore and prepared to climb out, Jamie's heart sank. In the time since he had left his clothes in the quiet spot under the weeping willow, it was evident that there had been some changes. His kilt and jumper were nowhere to be seen; moreover, two attractive young women of his acquaintance had arrived, and were now taking a leisurely picnic.
"A little more cherry cake?" Victoria was asking.
"Oh, I shouldn't." Samantha's protest was clearly a matter of form; even as the words left her mouth, her hand was closing around a slice. "Did you make it yourself?"
"I did," Victoria said modestly.
"It's very good."
"The cherries have all sunk to the bottom. I don't know why that happens."
"My mam rolls 'em in flour." Samantha glanced in the direction of the river. "Hey, Jamie, what are you doing in there? Come out and have a bit of Victoria's cake."
At the mention of cake Jamie took a step forward, but came to a halt with the water lapping around his waist. Blushing, he mumbled something.
Victoria sipped at her lemonade. "I'm afraid I didn't hear that. Would you mind repeating yourself?"
"I'm not wearing anything," Jamie said, still brick-red. "What've you two done wi' my clothes?"
"Your clothes?" Victoria gave him a blank look. "I haven't seen your clothes. Did you see his clothes when we came here, Sam?"
Samantha, her mouth full of cake, merely shook her head.
"Och, come on," Jamie protested. "It's got to be you. You've put them in yon picnic basket, haven't you?"
Samantha gulped down her mouthful of cake. "No, wack, we haven't," she said. "Look."
She crawled across to the basket and tipped it up, showing plainly that it was empty.
"Behind yon tree, then."
"Jamie, I don't understand you," Victoria said plaintively. "Do you really think we have stolen your clothes? You should know I'd never do something like that."
"Sam would."
"I've been with her all afternoon and she has done no such thing."
"Yeah." Samantha took a swig of lemonade. "You tell him, Vic."
"I assure you that neither of us has interfered with your clothes," Victoria said. "You do believe me, don't you?"
"Aye," Jamie said.
"That's more like it," Samantha said. "Now come and have some cake. Or a pork pie."
"But I still haven't got anything to wear."
"You just come out as you are. We won't mind, will we, Vic?"
"My name is not Vic. And we cannot oblige Jamie to walk around in a state of nature for all afternoon."
Samantha grinned. "Why not?"
"How would you feel if the situation was reversed?"
"OK, yeah." Samantha thought. "How about this? Jamie comes out and we get a good look at him. Then we find something for him to wear."
Victoria looked around. "How? Clothes hardly grow on trees."
"Well, he can borrow my jacket."
"But not your skirt," Victoria said. "It is barely adequate even for you."
"Got to be your skirt, then, hasn't it?"
Victoria put her hand to her mouth. "My skirt? That is out of the question... but I suppose I could spare my petticoat."
"OK." Samantha turned back to Jamie. "Right. Out you get."
Reluctantly, Jamie stepped out of the water, all too aware of the two girls' enthralled gazes.

Date: 2015-05-16 11:10 pm (UTC)Jane Marple had identified many murderers. It was, she thought, her civic duty. She felt no guilt when their sins caught up with them, and they paid the penalty--either on the gallows, or thanks to a small phial that emanated a waft of bitter almond. She never did anything to prevent the latter: if the guilty party's innocent family were spared, so much the better. But in this case, when there was a Warning to be given? She knew her duty, but could not face it.
Miss Marple looked around her drawing room, perhaps for the last time. It had seemed a day like any other. A visit to the fishmonger, purchase of a quarter of a pound of butter from Mr. Phipps the grocer (the Epscombe Bay killer had parted his hair just as Mr. Phipps did), a cottage loaf from Milburn's Bakery (fortunately the girl who served behind the counter had not got herself into trouble, so she married that nice lad from the ironmongers' after all).
Miss Marple put her purchases away, checked over the pattern, and sat down to roll the skeins of pink and primrose wool into balls.
"Take me to your leader," said the pink wool.
"We come in peace," said the primrose.
I must tell everyone, Miss Marple thought. No matter the consequences. But, who will believe me? And how can I ever atone for what I have done?
Inspector Craddock had never asked for the unusual mineral poison that the kind-hearted Leo Falbridge had used. But Miss Marple didn't know how long it would take to work.
Her father's service revolver was locked in the desk.
