Obscure & British Commentfest 2016
May. 7th, 2016 09:18 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Welcome to the Obscure & British comment fest IV! This is a comment fest for any small(ish) British fandom and open to all fanworks.

If you've ever loved any (non-large) British fandoms, find yourself too obscure for most fests, or you're busy wondering why there's still no Emma Peel in all this Avengers stuff, you're in the right place. Come on in and help yourself to a cup of tea and a crumpet. Also you should make prompts and fill them.
Rules & Guidelines
This commentfest works in the same way as most comment ficathons, although all kinds of fanworks are welcome. (Fanart, icons, fanmixes, vids, or whatever your creative mind can come up with or prompt for.) Just leave your prompt and/or browse through other people's prompts to see what you can fill.
1. Be polite - no bashing or shaming of anyone, or any prompts, characters, ships or fandoms! Thank you.
2. One prompt per post, please use format: Fandom(/Fandom), Character(s)/Pairing(s), prompt (i.e "Spooks, Tom/Ruth, apocalypse AU"). You may repost prompts from previous years (or even from elsewhere, as long as that's okay with the other fest/comm/whatever).
3. Post fills as replies (or links) to the comment containing the prompt. Please format the subject line as follows: Fandom - Character(s)/Pairing(s) - Ratings/Warnings (if included). There's a fills thread at the start of the post. Please also link your fill here, if you can. (I will also start up a masterlist post as soon as we have some fills.)
4. You may fill your own prompts if you wish, and multiple fills are more than welcome. (No prompt claiming needed.)
5. For crossovers any fandom is allowed as long as the first fandom qualifies. (If it's a cracky multi-fandom crossover prompt, that's fine, too, though try and make sure there are always equal or more eligible fandoms in proportion to those that are non-eligible.)
6. Any other questions - there's a questions thread at the start of the post if there's anything else you want to ask.
7. Prompt, fill, away!
Eligible Fandoms
Basically, any rare to smallish/medium British fandom, no matter how odd, old, obscure, non-existent, random or how shiny and new - anything that's not on the below list is fine. (Definitions of British are also fairly wide and hand-wavy - check on the questions thread if you're not sure.)
Non-eligible fandoms
ALL non-British fandoms are ineligible and the following fandoms are British but too large and therefore ineligible for this fest (although don't forget that you can prompt for any fandom as a crossover with an eligible fandom):
Chronicles of Narnia (all), Doctor Who (2005+), Downton Abbey, Harry Potter, The Hobbit (all), James Bond (Craig!Bond films), The Kingsman, Lord of the Rings (all), Merlin, The Musketeers (BBC), One Direction, Pride & Prejudice (all), Primeval, Robin Hood (BBC), Sherlock (BBC), Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle, The Silmarillion, Torchwood.
(RPF is welcome! Please use specific categories when prompting (e.g. history by century, and all actor/bandom RPF by individual series/film/band or whatever grouping seems most appropriate. In the spirit of the fest, please try and avoid RPF for non-eligible shows and super-popular actors like Tom Hiddleston or Benedict Cumberbatch.)
There's no closing date for prompts or fills - the fest will stay open until next year's post goes up. Once you've created a fill, you're welcome to crosspost it anywhere you like. (If you're posting to AO3, there's no collection for the fest, but there is an "Obscure & British Commentfest" tag you can use if you want.)
If you want to promote the fest, then thank you! Please do. You can find a selection of banners here, or feel free to make your own.
You can find last year's fest here. Also: O&B 2014 and O&B 2013. If you want to fill or repost a previous prompt, you may, although please also post to the fills thread on the current post.
ETA: Masterlist of Fills!
For those who don't have an LJ account, or prefer to remain anonymous, anon commenting is on!

Date: 2016-05-08 11:46 pm (UTC)“We’d rather it did,” Jean said flatly. “Calling attention to ourselves has never worked to our advantage. If anyone can find out what we’ve done, we’ve let ourselves down rather badly.”
“But I’m not ‘anyone’,” Peggy said with a smile, meeting one set of eyes after another. “I have access.”
“That’s often where our troubles start,” Jean cut in, with barely veiled suspicion.
“Jean!” Millie hissed. “Let her talk. I want to hear what she has to say.”
Peggy nodded her thanks. “Look, I’m not the enemy. I realise that it can be…difficult to be a woman. So many paths are blocked off. But I want to offer you a chance to do something meaningful, really meaningful, without having to sneak around and scavenge for resources and access.”
“You were at Bletchley,” Alice said suddenly, and the women turned in surprise. “I remember you now. Different hut, but it was definitely you. You left not long after I arrived.” She cocked her head to one side inquisitively. “Where did you go?”
The women looked expectantly at Peggy now, with something approaching trust. “Is that true?” Lucy wanted to know, excitement edging into her voice. “Were you at Bletchley?”
Peggy smiled faintly to herself. “I was,” she confirmed. “It feels like it was a million years ago, but once a Bletchley girl, always a Bletchley girl.”
There was a frisson of excitement, and guards dropped with the knowledge that they were with one of their own. Jean was still frowning, but now it was in thought. “Alice is right. I saw your name on documents. You went out in the field.”
Millie hurriedly exhaled a plume of smoke. “Field work? A Bletchley girl? You must tell me how you managed that.”
“It’s a very long story,” Peggy demurred. “But it’s not a million miles away from what I’m offering you now. I work for an organisation called SHIELD. We have a particularly nasty puzzle that needs unravelling, and I think you might be the women for the job.” She looked around the table, gauging their reactions. “It would require travelling to America,” she added.
“America!” The exclamations ranged from excitement from Millie and Lucy, to trepidation from Susan and Alice, to downright annoyance from Jean. “I can’t possibly go to America,” Susan declared. “We’ve only just come back from Mumbai.”
“Oh, come on, Susan,” Millie urged, reaching out to take her friend’s hand. “We always said we were going to travel together. This might be our only chance.”
“But I can’t tell…what do I say to Timothy and the children? I’m off on a top secret mission, tea’s in the oven?”
“You would all be provided with cover stories for families and employers, of course,” Peggy assured. “As a mother and wife myself, Mrs. Gray, I completely understand your trepidation, but I can assure you that this assignment has ramifications for everyone, including your family. We could so use your help.”
“Would we be paid?” Millie wanted to know. “And where would we stay?”
Peggy’s grin reappeared, slightly wicked. “Have you heard of Howard Stark?”
Jean snorted derisively. “Bit hard not to, the way he goes gallivanting about. You’re not here to sell us into his harem, are you?”
Peggy laughed uproariously. “Good heavens, no. Howard is very…sociable, but he also happens to be a genius and a very dear friend. He will give you all the resources you need to do your work, and you will be very well-compensated, I assure you.”
“Oh, can we?” Lucy was looking at her friends with shining eyes. “I’ve always wanted to go to America. I could take time off at the station.”
“Lizzie needs me around less and less since she started teaching,” Alice put in with a sigh. “And I would like to do something other than typing for a change.”
“That’s settled. We’re going,” Millie decided, reaching out to shake Peggy’s hand.
“Millie!” Susan protested. “I haven’t agreed to anything.”
“You will,” Millie predicted, winking at Peggy. “Leave it to me, Ms. Carter. You’ll have us all on a plane before you know it.”

Date: 2016-05-07 06:51 pm (UTC)(a missing scene from 'Enemy of the World')
Jamie knocked cautiously on the door of the room that Salamander had assigned to them. "Victoria?"
"You may come in, Jamie," Victoria's voice answered.
Jamie pushed the door open. "Och, what a day..." he began, and tailed off as he saw Victoria perched on the edge of the double bed, her chestnut hair tumbling around her bare shoulders. Further down, he only managed to gain the vague impression of something lavender-coloured and lacy before hastily averting his gaze.
"Do you like them?" Victoria asked timidly.
"They're, uh, they're not very you, are they?" Jamie managed.
Victoria beckoned him closer. "I've been waiting for you for so long," she said, dropping her voice so that he had to approach her to hear. "Where have you been?"
"It's a busy life in Salamander's guards." Jamie, in answer to her increasingly urgent beckonings, sat on the bed beside her. She leaned in, put her arms around him as carefully as if he were red-hot, and kissed him on the cheek.
"I didn't know what the duties of a 'girlfriend' were," she whispered, pitching her voice so low that it would have been inaudible to anybody listening at the door. "In my day there were books about how a wife, or a fiancée, or a companion should behave. So I tried to find an equivalent."
She gestured at the August 2018 edition of Cosmopolitan where it lay on the nightstand. A prominent headline on the cover promised 'Twenty top tips on how to be the perfect girlfriend.'
"And yon magazine said you should wear those... those things?"
"Yes." Now that she was able to explain herself, Victoria's tension seemed to be lessening. "It had to be something you wouldn't find difficult to take off me."
"Oh, aye?" Jamie risked another look at the flimsy lingerie. "What were the other tips?"
"Well, a lot of them were about... about sex." Victoria was close enough that he could feel the heat of her blush. "Or not nagging you about little things."
"You'd never do that."
Victoria, unexpectedly, giggled. "The sex, or the nagging?"
