A few more notes on shifting sides

1. I have been moving my communities! Some of these are still waiting on import, for various reasons (also the queue is still very long; it's definitely a mass back-up/exodus this time) and so have nothing on them yet, and some of them are more for archival purposes, but most are active or would happily be again, and certainly this mod is around for questions/tagging etc. if anyone else posts:

I moved dw_allsorts over here in January, and it is all shiny and ready at who_allsorts. I won't close the other, but feel free to switch your claim over (or drop your claim and start a new one at Dreamwidth, I won't tell). Also I probably will only add new tables on this side now.

dw_straybunnies is now fully imported at who_straybunnies! (It hasn't been active for a while, but as long as I'm still here, I'll be fine with people posting to it - it is/was a community for donating Doctor Who fanwork ideas (plotbunnies, if you'll forgive the tweeness, but it makes for a handy name) plus regular discussion of plot ideas we'd like to see and occasional challenges to fill some of the donated prompts.)

dw_guestfest is created now at who_guestfest, but I won't import it until this weekend is over, as someone's still trying to write a last fic for this year's fest. Obviously, the ficathon is over for this year, so nothing will be happening there until it runs again.

house_of_eliott is now in progress to house_of_eliott, hopefully before the LJ version entirely crumbles off a cliff. It's very tiny, but it's a general House of Eliott comm. (This is the only one I will be deleting, because it's so very tiny and crumbling and my co-mod has deleted their account, so it's on virtual point of collapse.)

cakefic is not yet in progress (but will be as soon as HoE finishes) and you'll find it at cakefic. It's not exactly very active, I know, but I do mean to finally run a cakeficathon one day (and heaven forfend that cake fic should be lost)! (clocketpatch, shall I make you co-mod again?)

I am also co-mod of b7friday, which vilakins has imported to b7friday and I hope to see if it's possible to revive it over there, as I think quite a lot of the B7 crew are more Dreamwidth based, such as there is in journal-land anyway). vilakins also imported b7fic, and already runs blakes7 (and foolishly just made me co-mod of both, which is new. Soon, I shall be supreme commander of the Federation and have all the best dresses!)

And I think I really am going to launch Apocabingo soon at tic_tac_woe, but more about that anon!

Please feel free to join any of them you like, even the ones that are still slightly works in progress. I do mean to pimp who_allsorts and b7friday a bit, and of course tic_tac_woe once I've firmed up the rules, and we'll see how it goes with the rest.

And, wow, no wonder that's been taking it out of me. *collapses* (Also, if you are not so much on Dreamwidth, or even if you are, and are feeling a little concerned about imported content, claiming your open ID is super-easy and seems to work like magic on assigning those posts and comments to your actual Dreamwidth account (providing you have one, of course) and then that allows you to edit/delete them as with the original.)


2. Also, in order to get me over the transition bump among other things, I've decided to turn off commenting on my crossposts for the next two months (at least). I've been trying to make sure I've granted access to everybody I can think first so you'll still be able to see and comment on flocked entries, but spotting who I've missed is rather like that game where you have a tray of objects and then take one or two away - and I was always rubbish at that game! So if I haven't yet, just point me in your direction at Dreamwidth. I am a terrible turncoat, I know, but I feel very happy about it! I hadn't realised how much worrying about LJ apocalypses was getting me down.

(tl;dr after this entry, you will have to click through on the link to comment, but I have faith in your ability to cope with slight extra clickiness, even if you judge me for it. ;-p)

I'm wondering about skipping guestfest next year (or running it later, or seeing if someone else wants to run it for 2018), and doing a cakeficathon instead. I think it could be a lot of fun! And if the world keeps up its current levels of awfulness, we'll all be in need of cake and nonsense by then.

I do need to just finalise what I want the actual schedule to be, as I've decided there probably does need to be one, at least nominally, so if you can hold on a little while, please do. But I mean to start it off by early May, and all being well, before the end of this month, so it won't be long! And if you want to leave your comment on the sign-up post so you don't forget, that's fine, but your card will be a week or two in coming! (I really want to promote my Doctor Who prompt tables comm first, as the timing is too excellent to miss.)

I'm looking at it again this morning and thinking that probably a schedule & rounds isn't going to work for me (or such an specific theme!), so that will mean it'll probably be sooner! \o/ I have a few bits and pieces to do yet - create banners and an AO3 collection, and pimp my Doctor Who prompt comm, but you shouldn't have to wait too long.

Also also, I was looking at your journal and while we probably match mainly on a few odd fandoms here and there, you seem to have the same sort of approach to fandom, and we are both from the UK and of a similar vintage, and I was wondering if I might friend you?

Bingos are a bit, aren't they? I copied a lot and adapted freely from a lot of the existing ones. I also used this lovely generator, via allbingo, and they're happy for people to use it with credit: http://an.owomoyela.net/fun/bingo_generator

I've never done a fandom specific one, although I know vaguely of a Marvel one. That would be fun, I should think - general prompts, plus some fandom-specific things etc. I was lucky, as when I originally proposed this, an flister helped me whittle down the apocalyptic scenarios into a usable list.

I'm in the NE, on the coast - Teesside, to be more precise.

I'm just wondering how you manage with getting a paid account on DW, or if you're going to stick with a free account, because an email I received from DW today was explaining that they can only accept US credit credits?

At the moment, I have no plans to get a paid account, but I know plenty of UK based people who have an account, so there must be some work around for it. I know a lot of sites won't take UK debit cards, but will take credit cards - I hadn't come across one that wouldn't take any, but I suppose Dreamwidth is a very small company! I think paidaccountfairy may be a good place to find out more, but I really haven't looked into it much.

Done! \o/ I am not entirely sure of my plans as so much depends on life and how well or otherwise I am, but I think we should have a cakeficathon sometime soon! After I've done apocabingo, so we can have first apocalypse and then cake. (btw, that comm is still slightly a wip and will be at least a week or two before I launch it and you get your card, but you will get one as soon as I'm ready!)

I don't think it's mean - I think it's awesome. Every morning when I read the paper and there's more news from Chechnya, I feel very low about still having comments on at LJ.

Yes, I know. It's really awful over there, unbelievable (although sadly not at the same time). I have mixed feelings because obviously, LJ aren't the Russian gov't and it would be silly to pretend they are, or to assume that me switching websites or not can help anyone in Russia, but at the same time, whatever their own stance, LJ are obliged to follow their country's laws, while I'm not - and if there's a perfectly serviceable alternative, as there is here, then why give them any more traffic or content than I have to? So, yeah. :-/

But I think this should be a little better anyway, and that's about £15-20 saved when renewal comes up, so I've practical reasons too. Also I love the idea of having my comments in the same place again!
