For the Talking Meme, from persiflage_1: Since you write a lot of Silver/Liz Shaw fic, which other Doctor Who character would you put into an adventure with them?

I'm not entirely sure I have written a lot of Silver/Liz fic, but to my great joy and pleasure I have somehow caused a lot of Silver/Liz fic to be written, which is the best outcome, really.

(Well, actually, I probably have written a lot of Silver/Liz ficlets - 1 make it 4 out of 11, with 4 authors making up the total - but I would like to point out that most of mine were prompted by Pers, so I'm not sure which of us is mostly to blame for that.* ;-p OTOH, I think all of the others were written for me, so...)

Anyway, Liz/Silver was an accidental pairing that came up in a meme where you sorted your icons and paired them off, with fairly entertaining and improbable results, and then next thing you knew john_amend_all had written a ficlet, and then so had I... and then people were giving me Silver/Liz in fandom_stocking and the ship is a thing. \o/


I'm unsure how to answer this question, because this is me. I would put any DW character I felt capable of writing in a fic with Silver and Liz, so narrowing it down is hard!

Three or the Brig would be natural, given Liz's era and both would probably have a lot less patience for Silver than Liz does (in the fic; she is scientifically interested in him, he is a curious part of the universe that naturally she would like to explore), so that would be fun. (I feel Three, finding an Element, would be rather like a human discovering an unexpected rat or something. It'd be at least five episodes later before he could admit that one was okay and actually kind of interesting, he'd have to be locked up in a cell with Jo before he admitted that he found them unnerving, because different Time thingies.) The Brig could end up in a very bemused OT3 situation that he would never ever mention again. It did not happen. Liz humours him kindly. She has some sympathy for being bemused by Elements.

But then there is the whole wide universe of Doctor Who! I wouldn't put Adric in it (it would not be the sort of place Adric would be of any use, unless Silver and Liz needed some mathematical calculations doing, I suppose), and Dodo wouldn't be my first choice, and I can't claim to have watched The Dalek Masterplan enough to write much Katarina or Sara Kingdom, but otherwise the Whoniverse is pretty wide open.

Who do people think would be an interesting/good/hilarious addition to a Liz/Silver (or Liz & Silver fic)?

Ooh, Liv's a fun idea, especially as she might think Silver looks weirdly familiar. (The others are also cool, especially Clara, as she's like my little black dress for New Who; it's all those splinters! I'm not sure what Bill would make of Silver, but she'd be keen on Liz!)

Liv and Liz would be an excellent combo, I feel - and yes, Liv would be looking sideways at Silver.

They couldn't sort out E-Space till I've watched the E-Space Trilogy! ;-p (It sounds like an earnest Science programme: Silver and Liz Sort Out... E-Space!)

THree would probably have a low opinion of the Transuranics, and then Silver could tell him he sounds like Steel.

Liz and Silver - now that's a pairing I like! Hmm. Out of other Doctors, I could see he and Two getting quite well, maybe? Seven would try to outsmug him, then Silver does something to the Doctor's spoons...

LOL, yes, spoons are not safe in Silver's vicinity. Seven and Liz is intriguing, too - I'm not sure I've seen them both in a fic yet.

I'd have thought Adric would fit in quite well if the situation resembled that in Castrovalva.

As for 'hilarious', I'm rather inclined to suggest the policemen from Carry on Screaming...

We are limited to the Whoniverse. I mean, in this particular theoretical situation. The policemen from Carry on Screaming would have run out before you could finish the ficlet, I think.

Mawdryn would tick the 'interesting' box in several respects, I feel.

Well, you know I'm always up for a crossover, but the question was what other Doctor Who characters would I involve? I suppose you've got to have imaginary limits sometimes.

I think I'd quite like Liz and Silver with Mike and Benton. Benton would be so politely baffled by everything that Silver is and does. And Mike, being Mike, would just accept it. Silver would probably love trolling them, just to try to get a reaction, but whatever "magic" he performed, Benton would just smile and say "Right you are, sir," possibly with a slightly strangled expression. And Mike would just act like it was all totally normal. Liz, of course, would be greatly entertained by Silver's efforts.

(And Jack would be cross with me if I didn't recommend him, because he would love to be between Liz and Silver.)

I quite fancy seeing the pair of them team up to make Five's life complicated too.

Aw, those are good ideas! FIve would find the combination a bit alarming; it'd make him think fondly of Tegan.

Jack would certainly have been put out if no one had mentioned him. Clearly, he would obviously volunteer himself!

(Aw, Benton and Mike. They are used to just about everything by now, and it's as if any of it ever makes sense.)

I have probably not seen enough Doctor Who to answer this question usefully, but I'd love to see Silver encounter the Seventh Doctor. They are not quite the same species of trickster, but they are each used to being the trickster on the scene; on the other hand, I feel a man who listens to apples won't be all that weirded out by an element that plays cat's cradle with scrap metal. This scenario would then ideally involve Ace, whose baseball bat/Nitro-9 approach to problem-solving I imagine Silver would despair of even more than he does Steel.

Liz and Silver and Sarah-Jane seem like a good team-up. It could be pre-Doctor Sarah-Jane stumbling into something while reporting. It could be Sarah-Jane while she's TARDIS traveling and then her and Liz can chat about things. Or it could be SJA-era Sarah-Jane complete with Luke and Clyde and Rani.

So much awesome potential. Can you imagine Silver's reaction to K-9?
