1. The world out there seems set to get worse and worse in every way at the moment. I feel bad that I have nothing to offer, but frivolous fannish things, but so it is.


2. I have my Yuletide assignment, but obv. can't talk about it. I have mixed feelings about whether I can do it proper justice, but it is a fandom I love and wanted to get, and hopefully I'll manage something decent in the end.


3. In the department of inevitable irony or something, the GRO have resumed their test pilot of offering PDFs for (some) historical certificates online for £6 instead of £9.20. I had been saving birthday money for this moment since May in case it ever came. Guess who finally gave up on that ever being a thing and spent the last of the money on Sunday? Yes, me. (The wretches! The rotters!) Anyway, for those also into UK family history, it's running for three months or so this time, so don't miss out.


4. I wrote a frivolous thing for no reason at all for the first time in forever. It was, of course, still stupidly obscure. Whoever it was - at least two people, I think, or maybe three - recommended me the Daisy Dalrymple books for light mystery reading, I blame you. All/both of you. Hey, if you can make even one reader feel a little happier than they would have otherwise, then it's well worthwhile. And I'm sure that you make far more than just one reader happy. Hopefully you make yourself happier too in writing them, and that's not to be sneezed at.

Aw, thank you. And that's my reasoning for continuing, too! After all, it's not as if my alternative is actually helping anyone if I don't - the alternative is being alone and silent and unhappy for too much of the time.

*all the hugs* I think frivolous fannish things are about all any of us can offer at the moment. (Not Finnish things, silly autocorrect.) But I also think they do help -- at the very least, they give us a little space to unwind in a world that isn't entirely made of shit. ♥ And, though this is harder to articulate, I think it helps just hearing about our friends still existing, cos that is by no means guaranteed these days. *hugs*

(I am very sorry to hear that you bought a thing just before it went on sale, though. That's always incredibly annoying. :P)

LOL, finnish things! And, yes, I agree; I just occasionally feel as if maybe it's being insensitive, but it isn't really. <3

And, ha, I didn't buy the thing! I swore never to buy one until they put it online at a reasonable price once they hiked them up to £9.20, so I have been waiting a long time for this. I missed last year's three-week pilot, but I assumed they'd do it for real again at some point, but had begun to think maybe that was optimistic of me, because this is the GRO. But I think I can still justify at least buying one while the longer beta version runs!

Nothing wrong with frivolous fannishness. Anything that makes people happy is a good thing! The world is what it is, and most of the time we can only change our own little bits of it, so if you can make people smile, do so, without apology. And best of luck with your Yuletiding! I'm sure you'll do your fandom justice.

The world is pretty crazy, yes, and I may be focusing more on the fact that there are apocalyptic wildfires in neighboring California counties (and checking in every chance I get on the tweets of a freelance journalist who's knocking herself out getting all the info she can, even though she had to evacuate) than on fannish frivolity, but distraction from reality can be very welcome, so fannish frivolity is excellent. Keep at it. *grin*

It was! But, as you say, the three months should at least take us past Christmas. And I decided, since it looks as if there's no guarantee they'll run it for real anytime soon, that I should allow myself a couple anyway.

But I bet they were spying on me! How else could their timing have been so perfectly terrible?? ;-)
