Fic: the only game in town

It's marginally seasonal, anyway. (For anyone who was wondering, in the end I claimed poetic license on the trains and didn't rewrite it to be in 1947 instead. So, it's a pointless, overlong, self-indulgent work with magical Dr Beeching proof trains. I've got to stop doing this sort of thing, but I probably won't quite yet, alas.)
