Re. the name change - nothing is wrong and the only drama was my accidental deletion! Apologies if I alarmed anyone. I didn't exactly plan to do either when I woke up this morning, but it fell out that way.

I came up with my user name a long time ago when Spooks was only at S5, and not finished 8 years ago (!) to use on a Spooks forum as a Ruth Evershed reference. All the obvious Ruth-related names were taken and she was missing at that point, so lost_spook. It's just that 'spook' is also a racial slur in some places (which obviously I didn't know back then, but it's why the show was MI5 in the US), so someone gave me a rename token to fix it, and now I have.

It's a bit weird to say goodbye to it, because it's been me in most places for over 10 years now, but, as you can see from above, it was never carefully chosen, it was just nicely oblique for a general fannish name.

What I didn't mean to do was delete my tumblr, but on reflection, I'm not sad about that either. I'll probably make a new one next week or some time to salvage some of my lost posts via people's reblogs, but there was very little there to mind losing, and it feels oddly better to have it gone, and if I do start another one, it'll be easier.

thisbluespirit is also nothing profound, though - I played around in my head with things I like + variations on 'spook' - and hopefully it will not have any such unpleasant associations for anyone.

(I also feel sure thisbluespirit must be cooler than lost_spook, but that, I fear, can only be delusion, as I am very much still me and, alas, Uncool. ;-D)

I still love Ruth Evershed to pieces, though. (Nicola Walker is amazing in anything, of course, but Ruth is how she won my heart forever and other characters cannot compete. Also Ruth is many many things, but not cool. I love her. Did I mention that already?)

*nods* I've used it since about 2007, I think it must have been, so not quite as long, but long enough that though I feel quite happy about the change, there's still also a sense of loss. It's felt far more me than my own name most of the time!

Yes, it was usefully ambiguous for moving between fandoms like that. Spook is also a slang term for spy in the UK, hence Spooks and my name, but I tended to think of it as both.

They're one of the few things that are definitely not lost! Not only do I still have all the combined graphic pieces, I still have the component parts on my PC and they were all reblogged. I might be able to if I emailed support, but I'm still v tired after Christmas travelling (partly why I made such a silly mistake), and they haven't even sent me a notification email to say my account is deleted or how to undelete it! And while I regret doing it without warning like that, I'm so not sorry about it in other ways that I don't really want to the bother of trying to get it back again. Maybe I'll regret that when I'm less tired, but we'll see.

When I Googled very little came up under blue spirit, but Avatar did. It's not, though, as I still haven't seen it - I thought it had a nod to the old name, and seemed fitting enough for both a DW and S&S fan somehow. Also I like blue! If I ever do watch and like Avatar, it could be that too...

You have a very cool new name! Congratulations! It's not as easy to shorten though (although I suppose, thinking about it, it was bad of me to shorten it to Spook anyway). Must look properly into the etymology of that as an insult. It seems such a random word to turn into something nasty.

And commiserations about tmblr. You don't seem terribly sorry about it, which is good to hear. It could have been a very nasty mistake! So many people have abandoned it lately though. Hopefully DreamWidth can go some way to filling the hole in fandom that it's left. The management here seem so much more respectful of diversity than most.

I think it must be very localised to certain parts of the South, and most people online use it to mean ghosts anyway - and the main Spooks comm was spooky_doings! But when it's my name, I don't really want to go round weirding out or offending even a relatively small no of people over it just by existing or kudosing or whatever. And hopefully we'll all get used to this me soon!!

tumblr is... I would never have deleted without warning followers like that, or double-checking on saving a handful of things, but having done it, I find that relief is outweighing the sadness. And with tumblr, anything reblogged is still out there, so I've left things behind me. I'll probably make a new one sometime soon, salvage some of those and just reblog pretty things until it crashes, but I don't know.

I must admit it is strange seeing the new name it's like you've had dramatic plastic surgery! I'm glad you didn't change it for negative reasons like I did with an email addy once.

I did a mass delete of tumblr posts last year as I wasn't using it/keeping an eye on it and I felt so much better after deleting.

I am 0_o about how easy it was to accidentally delete the tumblr (and official word is that's it, it's gone) but after a brief bit of panic and tears, I must say I just keep feeling relieved. The new nipple-less tumblr is kind of weird, even for someone who never posted nor viewed nipples.

I've just discovered you changed your name! I was wondering why I had a comment from someone I'd never heard of who used the same icons as you. And when I look I've found the lost_spook DW RSS feed has an error (the errors are helpfully listed on a page I don't look on).
