persiflage_1: 2 [Steel] and 7 [Lucy] are stuck in a lift together for 4 hours. Who has claustrophobia and who helps them to deal with it?
It's hard to see Steel remaining in the lift, but if Time has somehow made it impossible for him to get out (until they send a technician in, probably Silver, who will be delighted to annoy him by rescuing him), Lucy is not going to get any sympathy for her claustrophobia, that's for sure. I mean, assuming that Lucy is even breathing in this scenario, of course.
executrix: 2 [Steel], 5 [Dayna], and 11 [Zelena] start a business. What kind of business is it, and do they make money? Do their customers like their products/services?
I can only assume it is a front, although how anyone persuaded Steel to take part even under those circumstances is a mystery. They make things that explode, not all of which should explode, and probably go out of business very quickly. But since it was only a front, I don't suppose any of them mind, except Zelena who thought it was quite fun while it lasted.
hamsterwoman: 2 [Steel], 3 [Barry], 5 [Dayna], 7 [Lucy], and 11 [Zelena] are a (super)hero team which needs to defend the Earth (or another planet of your choice) from supervillain 13 [Obi-Wan Kenobi]. What are everyone's superpowers -- or are they just really competent at things without being superpowered? Do Our Heroes succeed in defeating their nemesis?
Dark side Obi-Wan would be pretty formidable, I suppose. At least four out of the other five already have superpowers, however - Barry's got super-speed, Lucy is a vampire, Zelena has magic and is the Wicked Witch of the West, while Steel has super-strength and the ability to lower his body temperature to freezing at need. I'm not sure Dayna needs super powers, just access to materials that she can turn into weapons or explosives. If she got a super power it would probably be from accidentally blowing herself up, so she might be a human bomb. I think they could take a Sith Lord. The main problem would be stopping Zelena from swapping sides whenever she felt like it, which could of course prove a fatal flaw if they're not careful.
So, I'm not sure whether or not they succeed. I think it all depends on how good or otherwise Zelena is at this point...
4 [Kara], 8 [Bill], and 12 [Sam Vimes] are teaching university courses; what subjects? Who is the best teacher? Who is the worst?
Given the list, these are three pretty decent choices! Bill is teaching physics and passing on the wonders of the universe, Vimes is teaching a criminology course that is turning out to be way more hands on and practical than the university was up for. Kara is presumably teaching a journalism course and is really nervous about it and her first few lectures do not go well, since they involve public speaking. She keeps winding up in Bill's study for biscuits and sympathy. Bill is very helpful and is developing a serious crush. (In fact, this is definitely some fluffy mundane Bill/Kara College AU. And why not? It would be pretty adorable. What Sam Vimes is doing in it I don't know. He probably would also like to object.)
So, Bill and Sam Vimes are equal best in very different ways (although the university are less sure and are contemplating firing Vimes, much to his relief) and Kara is the worst, but once she gets the hang of it, she'll be okay. Her nerves might not be, though.
In honor of your recent Chalion read: 1 [Servalan], 6 [Emma Peel], 9 [Sixth Doctor], 10 [Arnold Rimmer], and 15 [Hercule Poirot] each pledge themselves to one of the Five Gods (up to you whether several are allowed to choose one god or it's strictly 1:1 :) Who dedicates themselves to which god? Does anyone end up a Saint?
Well, here is a really unusual thoughtful question entirely messed up by the characters selected, as ever. Servalan is not going to dedicate herself to a god unless she can see benefit in it for her. So she either joins the Daughter's temple as the most innocent, big-eyed novice in existence and becomes head of the temple (following a series of mysterious resignations and deaths) and finds ways to do interesting things with demons before becoming the next villain someone has to try and defeat, or she joins the temple, bullies her way to the top and starts persecuting everyone who follows any of the other four gods and takes over the country. She could, if she wanted, become a saint, but that's not the choice she'll ever make. Whatever the outcome, all Chalion will regret
hamsterwoman asking this question.
Emma Peel is probably Chalion's only hope to bar Servalan's rise to the top. Which means it might be all right, after all. Possibly.
Six would probably be the Bastard (any Doctor is pretty much always going to be under the trickster god, the other), but I don't see any Doctor ever hanging around long enough to be dedicated to a god on any world. He had to sneak into a temple one time in disguise as a priest, does that count? He's read any holy texts that were around, because it took him two seconds and he was bored. He quotes them at Peri, who wishes he wouldn't.
Rimmer is also the Bastard (because where else, who else?) but feels he would have done better under any other God. He is the one who becomes a Saint, because that's just his luck. He's not going to do well against Servalan, though, unless by accident, but that could happen.
Hercule Poirot... the Father maybe? Again, I don't see him dedicating himself to a god. To solving the murders coming out of Servalan's temple, possibly, yes. He would consider active service fighting crime to be his form of dedication, which might work out for him.
corvidology: 5 [Dayna] is pining for 10 [Rimmer] but believes 10 [Rimmer] is involved with 8 [Bill]. How does it work out?
I don't know what Rimmer's been putting in the water, but Bill soon clears up that error and winds up going off with Dayna herself.
15 [Poirot], 6 [Emma Peel], 7 [Lucy] and 2 [Steel] wake up to find they'd all been drugged and abducted. How do they work together to get free?
Steel will be grumpy about it, for Emma it must be Tuesday, and I'm sure Poirot will also be handy, even if this sort of physical discomfort is not his cup of tea. How co-operative or not Lucy is will depend on whether or not she's a vampire, but I'm sure Steel and Emma will be equal to her.
9 [Six] and 11 [Zelena] have to fake a relationship for some reason.
After the initial protests and loud arguing, it goes disturbingly well.
senmut: 13 [Obi-Wan Kenobi] needs to get a message to 8 [Bill], so they enlist 6 [Emma Peel] to do it. How does that go for all involved?
You just enlisted Emma Peel to do something for you. It will go very well, although no doubt also involving many shenanigans before the message finally arrives.
pedanther: 1 [Servalan], 2 [Steel], and 10 [Rimmer] are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from 4 [Kara]. Do they succeed?
I think the prophecy may be broken, and if Rimmer and Servalan are teaming up to save the world from Kara Danvers, you've got to worry about the definition of the word 'save' here, but overall, they probably would succeed. Servalan's got sneakiness Kara couldn't hope to compete with, Steel is a non-human practically invulnerable element who's probably as strong as she is, and while Rimmer isn't much use, as a hologram, he can't actually be harmed very easily, either.
Under what circumstances might 4 [Kara] and 13 [Obi-Wan Kenobi] fall in love?
Kara got sent to a different planet, maybe? Some sort of crossover shenanigans? I don't know if it could last, but it would certainly be very pretty and sweet while it did.
(Meme, you kind of made me ship it.)
Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?
Hmm, I'm spoilt for choice. In normal circumstances, I'd take the Doctor, but I might become part of an Eric Saward bodycount with Six, so I think I'll go for Supergirl. I'm pretty sure she'll beat the zombies and save me.
(Though can I cheat and have a good half the list just to be on the safe side? It would be a fairly epic if occasionally grudging zombie fighting team up.)
thedarlingone: 10 [Rimmer] is naked save for some article of clothing not being worn in the intended manner, chained to 3 [Barry], and covered in cake. Who has caused this, why, and how does everyone react?
LOL, I always forget someone will do this! Anyway, this is just the sort of thing the universe throws at Rimmer, and Barry's probably relieved that he's got clothes this time. As to who's to blame, that's a good question, as there are no Masters on this list at all. Zelena possibly? She has magic and it's not as if she wouldn't think it was funny.
rosefox: 8 [Bill] is plotting a heist and brings in 2 [Steel], 3 [Barry], and 5 [Dayna], but they still need someone else from the list to provide a crucial skill—who is it, and what's the plan?
That is a pretty excellent heist line-up! Clearly it's something to do with time gone wrong and Bill needs something to help the Doctor and put it right, otherwise Steel would be having none of this. Barry can vibrate through walls and get in while Dayna is the explosives expert. I wasn't sure who else you'd need from the list and then realised: Orac. Orac will provide all the tech information and code-cracking, as long as it's not got other ideas. I think Orac'd be into working out a bank-heist, though.
Probably the best heist ever, anyway, if Time and Orac don't ruin everything.
ernest: 7 [Lucy] and 10 [Rimmer] are getting married. Why does 2 [Steel] stop them?
Because a Victorian vampire can't marry a future hologram without wrecking Time, even if it weren't wrong just because Rimmer anyway. But Steel wouldn't care about that. Humans make those kind of mistakes, that's their business, not his.
5 [Dayna] is 9 [Six]'s boss. How does that work out?
Not too well, really. The Doctor in any incarnation isn't exactly the ideal employee, particularly not Six, who doesn't like being told what to do. And Dayna's not the most patient person.
However, when it's revealed that it's all the front for an operation by the rebellion, the Doctor will be much happier to take part, some corrupt government will be felled and a lot of things will blow up.
Which characters does 3 [Barry] choose to be their backup dancers for a hot new music video?
Well, at least Barry can sing. Kara can also definitely sing and dance, and Barry would definitely choose her, if she was okay with being 'back-up' which she might object to. Emma Peel can dance, and Zelena can sing and might get stroppy if she doesn't get chosen, so probably those two.
Six can't understand why he wasn't chosen, though. The rest of the list is mainly relieved to be let off the hook.
1. Servalan (B7)
2. Steel (S&S)
3. Barry Allen (The Flash)
4. Kara Danvers (Supergirl)
5. Dayna Mellanby (B7)
6. Emma Peel (Avengers)

8. Bill Potts (DW)
9. Sixth Doctor (DW)

Sadly Blake's 7 I don't even have fannish osmosis kind of familiarity with, beyond reconizin a few character names, but you paint a frightening picture! And agreed that it would make the most sense for Poirot to function within the Father's milieu of justice, but that I don't see him being spiritually drawn there, beyond doing the work of crime-fighting.
I think the prophecy may be broken,
XD
Great fun as always! :D

Sadly Blake's 7 I don't even have fannish osmosis kind of familiarity with, beyond reconizin a few character names, but you paint a frightening picture!
B7 is great! It is very old and shaky TV but hugely influential SF - it is the DNA directly or indirectly of almost every SF show that's been made since. (Directly in the case of Babylon 5 - JMS is very open about the influence and even threw in a couple of quotes from B7 in B5 a couple of times - Farscape and Firefly.) It's basically a sort of British anti-Star Trek made by the BBC and a lot of people who also made DW and is a mix of 1984, Robin Hood, The Dirty Dozen and Shakespearean tragedy but with glam rock costumes and the worst SFX ever. (There was such a cute Russian fanvid someone made explaining it that I found at the end of last year here. All entirely true!)
Anyway, Servalan is the main villain and she is someone who looked at the universe she was in, worked out how to get herself to the top of the tree and then ruthlessly proceeded to do so successfully and without regret or ever conceding defeat. She is not a person to wish onto anybody else's universe lightly! (This is her and in actual action, at her most deceptively persuasive here.
Also she has the very best/most OTT costumes of anybody ever and Jacqueline Pearce could wear them like nobody else. (In case you can't tell, she's my single most favourite villain in anything - and I am not usually that into the villains.)
*coughs* Anyway, sorry about that (although not sorry because you might actually find B7 interesting if you can take the creaky old pace, which obv can be a dealbreaker. All the characters in it are compelling, not just Servalan, and they are all good at snarking & lots of the things you like are the sorts of things that probably have B7 in their DNA somewhere.)
But I'm already blathering about one bit of ancient telly SF tonight; that ought to be a limit really!

Date: 4 Feb 2019 02:36 am (UTC)And, ha, the origin vid is great! And you are absolutely right that I love a lot of things to which B7 was probably foundational in some degree, or at least the creators were fans (I know this is true of Vorkosigan Saga, too, because apparently one of my favorite characters of Bujold's was 'facecast' as Kerr Avon/Paul Darrow in her head, or at least so I've heard). I do want to get to it at some point. Whether old and shaky TV is going to work for me remains to be seen -- but I found it OK in the clip you posted, so there's hope!
