Okay, so I keep not feeling that great still, which is why I hadn't been posting so much, plus trying to see my parents when I was feeling a bit better. And then yesterday I decided just to go out and make myself worse by actually doing something for a change. Today I am tired, but I think in a more usual ME-ish sort of way. I hope.


So, I didn't sign up for hurtcomfortex, because I was too ill to manage the sign-up even though I got everything sorted and a letter written. However, I am only just becoming well enough to even feel a bit sorry, apart from the thing where I feel my requests and chosen freeforms were a sad loss to the exchange.

However, never let it be said that I wasted a bunch of perfectly good freeforms! How about a writing meme? (I'm not promising there will be fic, I might just go off and cry, it seems to depend a lot right now, but HOPEFULLY).

So: give me a pairing (or 2+ characters) + one (or two) of these freeforms as a prompt and I will attempt to write a ficlet!

(I present them here in full with my fandoms just so you can see that I was having too much fun, but obv. ignore that when selecting, I will take any fandoms and characters/pairings I know, unless I won't, in which case I will tell you. Also things I want people to write for me are not the same as things I want to write! Some of the freeforms are in there twice or more, but I am confident you can cope. If anyone wants to spread the meme, you can find your own preferred freeforms in the tagset (follow the link above) or just steal mine, but obv remove my fandoms and duplications please!)

“Wicked,” Ace concluded, holding her hand out in front of her face, unable to see it. She turned it around as if it might make a difference on the other side. It didn’t. She really was invisible.

The Doctor was still entirely visible and scowling at her. “No, no. Not wicked. Nor good. It’s bad – very bad. It shouldn’t have done that!”

“Oh, come on, Professor, you’ve got to admit this is pretty nifty. Those scumbags won’t see me coming this time.”

He tilted his head to one side with a small sigh. “No, they won’t. But neither will anybody else, if I don’t find a way to undo this. How would you like that? A permanent sending to Coventry, if you will.”

“Oh, yeah. True,” said Ace, reflecting on it more soberly, but she wasn’t all that worried, at least not yet. The Doctor’d work out a solution. He always did. And in the meantime she could get up to all sorts; it was one of those fantasies everybody had when they were a kid, wasn’t it? How many people got to live it? She was willing to be no one else she knew ever had.

The Doctor reached out and managed to tweak her nose, despite the fact that he couldn’t see her. “If an invisible Ace falls in an alien city, and nobody can see her, does she still exist?”

Ace rolled her eyes. “Too right she does, thanks. Look, you try and come up with a way to undo it, and I’ll make good use of my powers while I’ve got them. I’ll be very responsible and everything, cross my heart and hope to die.”

“Will you?” said the Doctor. “Good. What will you be doing so, er, responsibly?”

Ace wasted a grin on the air. “I’m going to try out an important philosophical experiment.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah. If someone drops a can of invisible nitro down one of the chimneys in that bilgebag’s mansion, will it still explode if nobody can see it?”

“Ah, yes. A vital step forward in the advancement of human knowledge, I agree.”

She hesitated, reaching in her bag – never mind the philosophical implications, it was hard to find an explosive deodorant can in a large backpack when they were both invisible and her hand was, too. It was another reminder of the downside of her new powers. “Professor. You will be able to fix me, won’t you?”

“Give me ten minutes,” said the Doctor, with a wave of his hand. A lever fell off the smoking gadget beside him. He shot it a shifty look, and coughed. “Well, fifteen. Possibly twenty. But yes. I will, Ace. Promise.”

She hurried off, cheered by that. Time to find out exactly what an invisible explosion looked like, or didn’t look like…

Even if I'm not at all into James Bond stories, that sounds like it would make for an interesting story! Especially coupled with the OUAT universe!

The room was illuminated by one sole candle that was growing dangerously low, while the icy wind howled around the building, shaking it as if in an attempt to get inside.

Ben and Polly, pressed together for warmth in the centre of the room beside the candle, exchanged a glance. Polly pulled a face.

“Hey, watch it. If this wind changes, you wouldn’t want to get stuck like that,” said Ben. “D’you reckon the Doctor’s on his way, or d’you think he’ll have forgotten we exist by now?”

Polly wriggled in closer. “Of course he won’t forget!” she said, and then, after a pause for thought, added, “I’m sure Jamie would remind him we were missing before he took off.”

“It looked like such a nice little village, too,” said Ben. “Quaint, you know. Thatched roofs and roses, I shouldn’t wonder – in the summer time.” He rubbed his head and winced. “Ow. My noddle still hurts from that whack Roberts gave it. Mind, that’s probably not even his name, is it?”

Polly kissed the side of his head. “Probably not, if he’s from – Neptune, was it?”

“Saturn, I think. How was I supposed to know, though? It’s the 1690s, you don’t expect to find a band of hostile aliens hiding out in Suffolk. Parky, too, isn’t it?”

Polly tried again to see if it was at all possible to narrow the already non-existent gap between them. There were at least some compensations to the situation – as long as they found a way of getting out of it alive, of course. “I seem to remember from school they called it the Little Ice Age.”

“Weren’t joking, were they?” said Ben, with a shiver. “We can’t go out there like this, with no coat or anything, even if we could get past that sentry. I only hope the Doc and Jamie turn up before we turn into icicles.”

Somewhere outside, something went BOOM, and the building shook, but more gently than it had from the gusts of wind.

“I think,” said Polly with a relieved grin, “that that’s probably the Doctor now. Come on, Ben!”

I'm sorry you've had a bad time of it lately. It sucks, and it's frustrating and boring as well as generally ick. I hope very much that this week is better.
