Date: 4 May 2019 09:00 am (UTC)Favorite Male Character
Doctors 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,11,12? :-D
Favorite Female Character
It's very hard to choose. Clara, or Ace. Or Charley. Or Barbara. or Tegan. Or Leela.
Least Favorite Character
Adric. Sorry, Adric.
Favorite Ship
The TARDIS!
Five/Tegan. And Brig/Liz. And Ben/Polly. And Eight/Charley.
(It's very hard to narrow DW down!)
Favorite Friendship
Pretty much all the Doctor & Companion relationships one way or another. It's always been at the heart of the show and despite fannish shipping and even canon edging there at times, it's always been pretty much platonic, really, on screen.
Favorite Quote
Lots, but: "There are worlds out there..."
Worst Character Death (if any)
Hmm. Well, I was pretty distressed when I was 12 and they killed Nicholas Parsons as the vicar in Curse of Fenric.
Of course, if you count the EU, the question is where to stop...
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
I may have mixed feelings about some of New Who, especially Nine and Ten, but When Doctor Who Came Back.
Saddest Moment
When it ended! (All right, cheating, but it's true.)
Favorite Location
I suppose, given that it's a different one every story otherwise, it's got to be the TARDIS. Classic old-school white roundels, please.

Date: 4 May 2019 09:40 am (UTC)Harry Pearce. I mean, much as I love Zaf and like watching Tom fall to pieces, and also Malcolm, it probably has to be, doesn't it?
Favorite Female Character
RUTH!!! (I may have mentioned this once or twice.)
Least Favorite Character
Once I would have said Adam, but all this distance later, I can cope. Mind you, I say that without having watched S5-6 again recently, so perhaps not. I would say Calum, but he got so unmercifully and gratuitously killed in the film, it would just be mean.
Favorite Ship
(This is the first fandom where I haven't been able to answer with a literal ship - curses, foiled! ;-p)
Ruth/Harry. I'm being very predictable, but you know well enough that anything else would be a lie. Although I am also fond of Ruth/just about anyone and Zaf/Jo.
Favorite Friendship
Colin & Malcolm.
Favorite Quote
"I had a sign hanging over me too: end of the world, end of the world, end of the world."
and "Shall I hit him again?"
and "Betrayal is a cancer, let it eat your soul, not mine."
Worst Character Death (if any)
Is worst the word? Spooks death are like an art form or something! Anyway, Zaf, because it was terrible and off-screen and argh. Zaf didn't die!
I may have other feelings about all the others, but Zaf's was the worst on multiple levels.
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
Halfway through what was rapidly becoming one of my favourite episodes of anything ever two of my favourite characters got together and started quoting (what was then) my favourite Shakespeare play. My favourite bit of it. Also Ruth's "I'm just my job..."
Saddest Moment
There are many contenders, but probably still Danny's death. ("Look at all the lovely presents!")
Favorite Location
London, obv. Especially that bench on the Embankment where all the spies gather to tell all their secrets in public. :-D
Re: Spooks
Date: 4 May 2019 02:52 pm (UTC)Sapphire & Steel
Date: 4 May 2019 09:49 am (UTC)Oh, gosh, who could it be??? ;-p
avorite Female Character
There's not much competition here, even if I include side characters. But then again, even if there was, it'd probably still be Sapphire.
Least Favorite Character
Johnny Jack. Transient Beings creep me out!
Favorite Ship
Unlike Steel, the Mary Celeste. ;-p
Yes, all right, we all know that isn't true: Sapphire/Silver/Steel. ♥
Favorite Friendship
Sapphire & Silver & Steel, or Elements & Elements generally.
Favorite Quote
Sapphire: "You're supposed to lose sometimes."
Silver: "I wondered what I was doing wrong."
Worst Character Death (if any)
Mr Tully!
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
I think pretty much everything that happened after Silver turned up in Assignment 3.
Also, talking of Assignment 3: the Evil Pillow and Steel's wariness of it.
Saddest Moment
The ending!
Favorite Location
Hmm, difficult. I suppose maybe the weird bric-a-brac shop in Assignment 4.

Date: 3 May 2019 06:06 pm (UTC)And meanwhile: Discworld (have fun picking a favorite quote! *evil laugh*)
ETA: Ah, oops, I see I'll need to go over to Tumblr to check that one. Let's do Star Wars then.
Star Wars
Date: 4 May 2019 12:35 pm (UTC)Favorite Male Character
Obi-Wan Kenobi. He is the prettiest, after all. And the best Jedi. ;-p
Favorite Female Character
Predictable answer is predictable but Leia. Although I do have a lot of fondness for Padme - unfortunately so much of that has to be despite things seen on screen and including the bits they bafflingly cut that there's not really a contest. I also really liked Rose in The Last Jedi.
Least Favorite Character
Jabba the Hutt.
Favorite Ship
Millennium Falcon!
Otherwise Obi-Wan Kenobi/Padme Amidala, what d'you mean it's not canon, you just have to fill in the obvious errors as you watch the prequels...
Favorite Friendship
R2D2 and C3PO. It is the most enduring.
Favorite Quote
Umm... Oh, wait, Padme: "So this is how liberty dies - to thunderous applause."
Worst Character Death (if any)
Do I need to say Padme? I probably do. That didn't happen, either, or NOT LIKE THAT honestly, WTF.
(I have prequel feelings. I love them a lot, they're my favourite bit, but they're undeniably terrible and can only be watched with the fast forward button at hand for all the Anakin/Padme stuff. And the podrace.)
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
When the prequels came out, I'd vaguely got into some of the novels, so I was really excited to see all the world building and the prettiness, and especially getting to actually visit Coruscant.
I am really judging of the sequel trilogy for being devoted to never giving us anything like that in case anyone gets a flashback to Jar-Jar and walks out of the cinema or whatever it is that precludes pretty worldbuilding and Jedi as a thing.
Saddest Moment
When they kill all the Jedi and Yoda's ears go down.
Favorite Location
Well, I mentioned that I love the prettiness of the prequels, so Naboo's palace and Coruscant and the Jedi Temple and Senate generally. I quite liked the world they visited in Rogue One as well.
(That was fun. I didn't realize I had anything to say about Star Wars, but I do.)

Date: 3 May 2019 06:56 pm (UTC)I might do this one myself. I feel like I could use something to ramble about.
[ETA: And, OK, that's not the icon I was going for, but maybe it's kind of appropriate, anyway. :)]

Date: 4 May 2019 08:51 am (UTC)This is tough, because most of my favourites are all the female characters in this fandom (which is not to say I don't like the men). I think, given the unevenness of his character arc, it's probably not Rumple, even if Robert Carlyle would win if it were for acting. So, Hook. I enjoyed his overall arc, it works, he's good entertainment value because of never being cursed and not getting any real world technology. (I can also tell I like him more than you do, because I consistently enjoyed every Hook backstory episode more than you did, even if few of them were on the outstanding list.)
Favorite Female Character
I think everybody round here knows I'd be lying if I tried to claim it wasn't Regina. I mean, right at the start, it was probably Snow and I didn't even like Regina, but ever since the end of S1, I have been predictably bowled over by Regina and Lana Parrilla all the time.
Least Favorite Character
Neil! I really enjoyed his death and then felt bad about it. But, you know, his time had come.
Favorite Ship
The Jolly Roger. Oh, okay, um... Probably Emma/Hook, but to be honest, I'm more in this for all the ships in the category below + the many (many) familial ships, including the surprise familial ships that started off apparently unrelated.
Non-canonically, Emma/Regina, but it isn't canon. Alas.
ETA: Oh, Robin/Alice, because they were seriously adorable; there is that.
Favorite Friendship
Emma & Regina! It's a close-run thing, though.
Favorite Quote
There are a lot of really good ones, but maybe: "The best way to show your love for those who are gone is to tell their story."
But also, on the more flippant side, Cruella's "There's an explanation... I'm a really terrible person!" and Regina's "I said to meet covertly - you brought the entire Charming softball team and their pirate mascot?"
Worst Character Death (if any)
All the ones in Underbrooke where their souls got destroyed. OUaT, that's terrible, what were you thinking?! Aunt Em, poor Milah! It's such an optimstic canon; that bit is still so weirdly bleak.
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
This is a) fairy tale characters wandering around in Maine watching their own Disney films vs b) everytime we find out someone is secretly related to someone/Henry Mills's family tree vs c) Emma & Regina go on a road trip.
I think Emma & Regina two road trips just about win for me, though. Twice. I would have watched the whole series of that, or certainly, a lot more episodes about it than we got.
Saddest Moment
Even though it got reversed, maybe the end of 3a where they leave Emma & Henry without their memories in the real world and go back to the Enchanted Forest?
Favorite Location
Storybrooke! I still want to know who was setting up a heritage trail in the middle of world-ending events in a town that has no real heritage to speak of because its first 28 years were basically the same day over and over.
no subject
Date: 4 May 2019 09:04 am (UTC)Well, I can understand that, I guess. I mean, I can't argue with the logic, even if I disagree with the conclusion. ;)
But Hook is a fine alternate choice, even if you liked him better than I did. And he grew on me a lot over the course of the show. I was really quite fond of him by the end.
I mean, right at the start, it was probably Snow and I didn't even like Regina,
Well, Regina was thoroughly unlikable at the start, and highly unlikely to be anybody's favorite character... which just makes her evolution all the more amazing, and where she ended up all the more impressive.
everytime we find out someone is secretly related to someone/Henry Mills's family tree
Ooh, yes, it's amazing to me how that never stopped delighting me, no matter how often it happened and how ridiculous it got.
Even though it got reversed, maybe the end of 3a where they leave Emma & Henry without their memories in the real world and go back to the Enchanted Forest?
That probably would have been my second choice.

Date: 4 May 2019 08:34 pm (UTC)THOROUGHLY OFF-TOPIC
Date: 3 May 2019 07:57 pm (UTC)James Maxwell is never off topic here!
Date: 3 May 2019 08:40 pm (UTC)And you've seen a bit of James Maxwell that I haven't! (Because when you look at IMBD and it's a TV actor in a film and it says "Principal of Art School" you know it's not going to be worth shelling out without pressing other reasons, heh.)
However, you ommitted the most important information here - was he afflicted with any fake facial hair or not? ;-p
ETA: Although thanks for the 46 min mark info; v handy!!!
I am not sure whether I am pleased or embarrassed that I have trained everyone here to recognise him on sight. And in some cases, dream about him... Hmm...
Oh good!
Date: 3 May 2019 09:04 pm (UTC)It's an uneven but sweet middle-aged romance between two people keeping secrets; Redgrave and Davis are good together despite their different universes; the subplot with Alexis Kanner is extraneous but I guess swinging; the James Maxwell values really are confined to thirty seconds in an art school. He was not afflicted with facial hair either real or false, however, so I regret that there does not appear to be an obvious way to screencap off a Roku! You can also see Leo Genn for about thirty seconds in this film if you feel like it.

House of Eliott
Date: 4 May 2019 05:51 pm (UTC)Favorite Male Character
I think, somehow, it just has to be Jack.
Favorite Female Character
Bea! (Sorry, Evie, but there it is.)
Least Favorite Character
Sebastian! I rarely truly loathe characters in shows I love, but then I suppose I first watched this as a teen, but AARGH Sebastian. Like, either he's your half brother OR your boyfriend, not both at plot need, and either way he's even worse than Cousin Arthur. (Best death ever.)
Favorite Ship
Jack/Bea!
Favorite Friendship
Well, maybe not technically a friendship, but the relationship at the centre of the show, surely - Bea & Evie.
Favorite Quote
It's been long enough that I really can't think of one right now, although I'm sure there must be some good ones, especially Pen and Bea and Jack. And Aunt Lydia.
Worst Character Death (if any)
Poor old Florence, loved by so few, run over by a random bus. *removes cloche hat*
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
There's something about the whole rags to riches by their own effort thing that I love about S1 in particular. But I did mention that I was made very happy indeed when Sebastian crashed his plane and was no more.
Saddest Moment
Hmm, the ending? Or when Bea and Jack break up. (noooo.)
Favorite Location
That spot just outside their door, where you have to watch out for dangerous buses and delivery boys and Evie's terrible boyfriends and all that. :-D

Date: 4 May 2019 08:29 pm (UTC)Favorite Male Character
Freddy!
Favorite Female Character
Harder to choose, but maybe Drusilla from The Quiet Gentleman.
Least Favorite Character
EDward from Venetia. Which, we're not supposed to like him - she's really good at making 'boring' alternate love interests that I actually don't immediately sympathise with (as I do in many other books/films) because they're really oppressive and tend to try and steamroll the heroines.
Favorite Ship
I like most of the canon relationships, so that's a lot to choose from! Maybe Tristram/Sarah from The Talisman Ring.
Favorite Friendship
I'm not sure if it counts as a friendship, precisely, but I really like the relationship Mary Challoner and the Duke of Avon strike up between them once they meet.
Favorite Quote
"I am happy to be able to tell as many of you as I c an that I have not the smallest wish to marry any of you!"
Worst Character Death (if any)
... does anybody actually die in any of them? Probably somebody does in An Infamous Army, but not that I can remember without re-reading it.
Oh, there's Cousin Kate, isn't there? Which I also usually try to forget, but Torquil, then.
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
That the romance in Cotillion really is Freddy/Kitty and not Kitty/Jack.
Saddest Moment
Leaving the romances aside (because are there are any really sad moments?) just... Penhallow argh.
Favorite Location
Stanyon, I think. (Theo would approve.)

Date: 4 May 2019 04:17 am (UTC)Miss Marple, totally a fandom
Date: 4 May 2019 08:43 pm (UTC)Inspector Dermot Craddock.
Favorite Female Character
I think that would be Miss Marple!
Least Favorite Character
It's been a while since I've read the books and nobody is springing to mind.
Favorite Ship
Miss Marple/Murder
I did like Guy Whose Name I can't Remember/Megan from The Moving Finger and Lucy/Inspector Craddock in The 4.50 from Paddington except I feel sure she married the hapless RAF pilot sadly.
Favorite Friendship
Miss Marple & Dolly Bantry.
Favorite Quote
I can't remember it exactly, but from Nemesis - "The only thing I shall need for a rainy day is my umbrella."
Worst Character Death (if any)
LOL. At least there are plenty to choose from! I think i'm with Miss marple on Lance putting the clothes peg on the poor maid after he killed her in A Pocketful of Rye being wicked.
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
This feeling is usually reserved for if my favourite guest character actually didn't get murdered or murder anybody for a change. \o/
Saddest Moment
Probably a lot of Nemesis, with Verity's story and it being the last book (even if Sleeping Murder is officially).
Favorite Location
St Mary Mead, even if its position as most lethal quaint village has been overtaken by Midsomer.
Re: Miss Marple, totally a fandom
Date: 5 May 2019 06:16 am (UTC)Or Cedric. :( Inspector Craddock is a MUCH better choice. *nods* They do end up together in one of the Miss Marple adaptions, where he is played by Jack Hannah. i found that a lot more satisfying!
I think i'm with Miss marple on Lance putting the clothes peg on the poor maid
Oh yes, I hated that too- so demeaning!
Probably a lot of Nemesis, with Verity's story and it being the last book
It is! It was one of the first Christie I read, and the only one I have cried over. Poor Verity, and poor other girl who was just killed for plot-reasons.
Re: Miss Marple, totally a fandom
Date: 5 May 2019 08:01 am (UTC)It was! Although I still haven't forgiven ITV for adding random Inspectoral romances to pretty much all of them and then not even bothering with INspector Neele/Mary Dove (which I forgot, that's probably my favourite) which actually has real canon grounds! And they even cast Matthew Macfadyen. That was not the moment to stop and be religiously faithful!
I always feel sure it was Brian, not Cedric, although we don't really know. *side-eyes Agatha*

Date: 4 May 2019 01:37 pm (UTC)The Avengers
Date: 4 May 2019 08:51 pm (UTC)So, would that be Steed or Steed? I think it must be Steed.
Favorite Female Character
Emma Peel! (Sorry, Cathy.)
Least Favorite Character
Of the regulars, I like everyone I've seen so far, but if I have to rank the ones I've seen, then Tara would have to come last (but I don't hate her).
Favorite Ship
Emma/Steed
Favorite Friendship
Emma & Steed. (maybe Steed & Cathy if I'd seen more than 2 episodes of Cathy.)
Favorite Quote
Oh, gosh, there most be loads of great ones, but I've only really watched it once and not even quite all of it, so nothing jumps to mind.
Worst Character Death (if any)
Can we have worst character coming back from the dead instead and I can choose Mr. Emma Peel?
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
I think just watching it and finding out that, yes, Emma really is All That and then some.
Saddest Moment
When Emma leaves. *wipes away a tear*
Favorite Location
Steed's flat where everyone died. They loved it so much they never left...

Re: The Avengers

Date: 4 May 2019 04:54 pm (UTC)All the Draculas!!
Date: 5 May 2019 08:21 am (UTC)ETA: Because I'm completist and I decided to add the 1931 and 1958 anyway.
Favorite Male Character
Book: Jonathan
1931: Renfield.
1958: Van Helsing. (Were you expecting me to choose someone who wasn'tr Peter Cushing?)
TV 1968: Dr Seward (And not only because he's played by James Maxwell, but it does help.)
TV 1977: Hmm. No one specially.
TV 2006: Dr Seward. Probably.
Favorite Female Character
Book, 1931, 1977, 2006: Mina!
1958: Not great on the female characters, Mina or that vampire at the start? Nobody?
TV 1968: It's really hard to choose between Lucy and Mina. Both.
Least Favorite Character
1931: ??
1958: Mr Holmwood (I forget what exact amalgamation of the male characters he was) but that was mainly because he was played by Michael Gough and I kept expecting him to be evil and he never was.
TV 1968: Mr Swales, but only for winning the Terrible Accent Competition and even most of that is Bram Stoker's fault anyway.
Book: Van Helsing, seriously, learn to use telegrams! You're in the 1890s! Also what is your accent?? (Not that I hate him, but I thought the 1968 Van Helsing had issues until I met the book one. At least the 1968 version's ideas all make sense if you assume that he just wants all the women to die and Dr Seward to faint into his arms.)
TV 1977: I don't remember hating anyone.
TV 2006: Is Arthur my least favourite if he was that hilariously terrible?
Favorite Ship
Mina Harker/John Seward, which I didn't mean to do, but is what I ship in TV 1968, the book (it was the diary reading) and the 2006 where it was actually canon. (It's implied canon in 1968, but that's very multishippy.)
It's very inconvenient and there's no fic unless they're dead and poly, or very occasionally alive and poly.
1977: No ships for me.
1931: I suppose Mina/Jonathan are at least the cutest.
1958: It's not very shippy as a whole... but there is Van Helsing/Dracula at the end and Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee had serious chemistry.
Favorite Friendship
1931: Well, I suppose you do get brief Mina & Lucy.
1958: Jonathan & Van Helsing must have an interesting friendship if, you know, Jonathan didn't die in the opening sequence.
1968, book: Mina & Lucy, although everyone & everyone in the book, which is part of the fun of it & same goes for 1977, although Mina & Van Helsing are good in that. 2006, well, I don't think anyone's allowed time to be friends.
Favorite Quote
"It is the fault of our science that it wants to explain all; and if it explain not, then it says there is nothing to explain."
Worst Character Death (if any)
It's always Lucy. :-/
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
1931: I may have been watching too much shaky old TV, but I was so impressed at the size of the castle set!
1958: Peter Cushing comforting a scared little girl. ♥ (My reasons for watching Hammer Horror are simple and few, lol.)
Book: I was a bit ill at the time, but I got ridiculously amused, for reasons, when all the men cried at Mina.
TV 1968: When Lucy rose the grave and seduced Mina, because I did not think 1968 was going to go there and then it did. Also Dr Seward's faintiness and complete inability to cope with vampires.
TV 1977: Hmm, I just really enjoyed it all. I didn't want it to end!
TV 2006: Well, at the end Mina and Dr Seward sort of got together.
Saddest Moment
As I already mentioned, Lucy's death.
Favorite Location
Whitby. Whether it's miraculously not in Yorkshire, supposedly "near London", made out of cardboard, or whatever it is they did this time to save on the cost of actually going there to film. It's all good, although real Whitby is best. And very distinctive, people-who-make-Dracula-adaptations, btw.
The castle is usually pretty cool, too in less ironic ways. I like the 1931 and 1968 versions particularly.
:-D

There are probably loads, but Chrestomanci smiled and swept out of the room like a very long procession of one person.
