Mission Impossible (Completed)

Well, I am back & will be catching up with people soon.

My trip to London included a day trying to find bridesmaids' dresses (my youngest sister is getting married in Sept) and this seemed like a tough proposition, given the budget, the varying tastes of the 3 bridesmaids (me being one) and the bride-to-be... and we did it. We picked up something unexpected, very different, that we all liked, and flattered all of us in somewhere we never would have thought of, in the sale. We are gleeful. If I reveal details, even under flock to a bunch of people who couldn't care less, I would be hung, drawn and quartered, so I shan't. Besides, I don't think you want stuff about dresses. (It's blue. I'll go that far.) And then we got into see a show cheaply in a mad rush - in the stalls! It was a bit of randomly great day. I also spent all of yesterday at The National Archives. I love TNA, but what I'm currently researching involves me ordering 3 volumes, waiting 40 minutes, looking in the index (No, no, no / yes) and then waiting at least 20-30 minutes for the next... I suppose if I was organised I would research something complementary at the same time. Still, I did find two new pieces of information, so it was not in vain. All the waiting is bad, because they have a bookshop full of history stuff.

And I have been plotting out casting and things for shows 2 and 3. (I know I posted a bit of Show 2, but it is actually missing major characters and some stuff is wrong, so stand by because I just posted all the background family stuff really before...)

Just a plea: out of current actors around who would you cast as the Duke of Wellington? (You can see a pic of him HERE.)

Sounds like you had an awesome time in London! Congrats on the bridesmaids dresses, and I'm jealous that you had so much input into them (I've been a bridesmaid several times and it was always "here's what you're wearing -- surprise!")

I second this - Morrissey would be a brilliant Duke of Wellington. Or maybe a slightly younger David Troughton. :-)

David Troughton played a splendid Wellington in Sharpe, but that was 17 years ago (where does the time go?). I suppose there's always his son...

Yes, can't imagine! BTW, your show is taking shape nicely (if you'll forgive some monumentally unoriginal casting), but I won't post it for a bit because I think Cloak and Dagger might meet it as the iceberg met the Titanic...

I think I might use him elsewhere, although that still leaves me with a vacancy. But he's definitely going to be one of the historical uncast parts, aha... I'm trying to stick to current actors so that it looks relatively realistic (even though it isn't in the slightest :lol:).

Heh, um, no, they'd better not be! :-D But they are very unusual. My little sister is happy because without a photo it would be very hard for us to describe them and give the game away. Now she just has to find her wedding dress & hopefully she will this weekend. Even worse, Dad is trying out his suit then as well. (He's bad enough normally, "Ohh... Do you think it's too big?" we all chorus for him these days when he holds up a new item of clothing. He's not going to like a 3/4 length suit... :lol:)

I did, especially Monday. It was one of those random good days. Well, my youngest sister did enjoy making us try on the dresses even if we weren't keen on some of them, and while she had an idea of what she wanted, she's much too sweet to try and make us look silly for a day. I tried on more expensive dresses in one day than in my whole life, but most of them were about three or four sizes too large, so not exactly glamorous. :-D

Ooh, David Morrisey. Nice suggestion. I'm not sure about the Iron Duke, but I bet he'll do for one of my politicians - I haven't cast any of them yet, either.

The Duke of Wellington? Er...(did I mention I'm a bit rubbish at the casting part of this meme? Yes, I think I did, a couple of times...)

Do you know, I think Liam Cunningham would make a good Wellington, but you've already cast him as the brother, haven't you?

I did - I got pver the lack of Sam Kelly after a few minutes! :lol: (I'll say no more; I vaguely recall that you despise musicals and have no wish to be sneered at!)

I thought that, but his part is very significant now; I think he makes a convincing much older half-brother for RA, and he is a bit old to play Peninsular/Waterloo Wellington.

Hmm. David Morrisey. I dunno. I'll snaffle him for someone though, I think. I have plenty of uncast politicians (I need at the very least the other two Wellesleys, Canning, Castlereagh, Percival, and most probably the Duke of York.)

I'm not a very musical person, I'll admit. Although obviously it's a very different experience seeing one on stage than on the telly.

Yeah, definitely have Morrissey in it in some role because, well, he's David Morrissey. Don't really see him as Wellington, though, I have to be honest. I'm afraid I'm drawing a blank right now on who would be good for that part...hmm...

I ended up with him as Wellington. I can't think of anyone else, but I'm not entirely happy. Still, he's not in it all that much and someone's got to do it. Besides, he didn't look anything like any of the politicians, after all, so that was no use. :lol:

He'd do a good job, I think, even if he doesn't look the part particularly, but when casting historical figures is the likeness that important?

I'd make some comment here about Stephen Fry in Blackadder III, but I suspect you're aiming for a somewhat higher level of historical realism! :D

It is, and I think that my sister also has a dress now - and my Dad is even happy with his suit, so we're all set. Just alterations, fittings, flowers, etc etc... I am now trialling contact lenses and am very happy that I won't have to be bridesmaid with glasses, too. :-)
