I wanted to link to some of the results of the Genremixer meme from the other week, because people actually did write things and they were great. But also, look what I found in my local supermarket bookstall:



For only 50p I could not resist its peak 1970s-ness and am also laughing at this way of selling classic lit - it's totally occult, right? (Instructions on how to summon a devil, no less.) (Btw, liadt, our Peak 1970s theory is confirmed here: it was published in 1974. I know you will not be surprised.)

Woo, brown and orange it'll go nicely with everything else in the 70s:) Wonder how much Wheatley was paid to use his name and was it worth it saleswise?

Brown and orange and occultism, it must be 1974! Dennis Wheatley wrote an introduction and all, and this was volume 15 of the Dennis Wheatley Library of the Occult. (I want them all now! :lol:)

That is perfect! I mean, it isn't a perfect cover for Goethe's Faust, which is . . . not like that at all, but it is a perfect object in its own right. I love the devil's very 1970s copstache.

The other books in the Dennis Wheatley Library of the Occult are, according to the lists inside, a bemusing mix of the actual occult and random literary classics that wandered in due to presence of something at least vaguely supernatural. (Apparently I could have found Dracula and the notes at the back imply, tantalisingly, that they were also doing Otranto and a Wilkie Collins. Right next to Aleister Crowley.

I've read a few of his novels too. To the Devil A Daughter, come to mind, complete with evil not-so-secretly devil-worshipping priests.

Yay for Yuletide fic taking shape! I managed to get mine into something vaguely resembling shape thanks to fic_rush, waiting for my beta to read it now.

And I have a semi-tangentially-related question, related to AO3 tag wrangling - what defines when a tag gets marked as canonical? Is it just "when a wrangler gets to it", or is there more involved? (Neither Quill nor Lucius currently are, and I would love for their names to autocomplete, typing "Lucius Virion-Elluin Elenasto" is a pain... every time I do I have more sympathy for the GM mangling it completely last time he had to say the full thing, lol.)

And thanks! I'm still a little nervous that I might have to default, because of this upcoming stuff, but I feel the story will get posted in the end anyway at this stage, so that's something. (And fingers crossed not.)

As to the AO3 question, yes, definitely do put in a support ticket for that one! I just had a quick look at the fandom from wrangle-side, and that will be the best thing for everyone if you can.

(And yes, a tag is made canonical when the wrangler makes it so. In the meantime you could probably get away with just typing Lucius Elenasto or something and letting the wrangler syn it when they sort it out via the support ticket! As long as there aren't a lot of Lucius Elenastos around, in which case, don't do that. :lol:)

I just put in a ticket, thanks :) True, I could just type Lucius Elenasto, but it would be *inaccurate*, you know? And the wrangler's already going to have the many variations of Qillek's nickname to deal with (Quill / Quil / Qill are probably about equally common... the problems of audio media!).
