1. intoabar is open for sign-ups!

This is a fun old school ficathon (no exchange troubles here) where you choose a character you like and then choose 1-4 other fandoms you can write and the mods will randomly generate a character from those for your other character to meet (in a bar, hence the name). I wasn't sure which character to choose - I was going to have Obi-Wan Kenobi, and then I thought maybe Clara or even Jenkins, but then I decided that this was clearly the year to have Silver, so that's what I did (and chose SW Prequels, DW (12th Doctor Era), OUaT and Ripper Street as the fandoms. (I might regret Ripper Street, but I suddenly thought it could be really cool in this context.)


2. justmarriedexchange is now open for nominations! (Cracky marriage tropes for all! Or possibly if you're not me, romantic shippy marriage tropes for everyone but people who evilly contemplate nomming S&S!)


3. as is littleblackdressex which is for characters you ship with everyone/anyone. (The fandom bicycles, basically.) It's running at the same time as Just Married, so I won't be able to do it, but that does seem like a fun idea. (I definitely have some characters like that, though - Silver, Ruth Evershed, Clara Oswald, Obi-Wan Kenobi...)


4. hc_bingo have got the last of their Amnesty challenges running (with no obligation to take part in any other aspect of the bingo) - the May Small Fandoms challenge, where you get a bingo 'stamp' of four prompts and you create something in a small fandom using 1-4 of those prompts.

I got one with "mind control/possession," "orphans," "deadline/time bomb," and "sensory deprivation" and thought, hmm, this is that Copper fic I wrote for hc_bingo proper a while back, minus the orphans. At the moment, I'm thinking of using Dracula (TV 1968) as I have an idea and that should be under the 400 limit (which S&S probably isn't any more).


5. And, on top of all that, unconventionalcourtship is deciding when to have its next round. (UC is a lot of fun - you take a Mills & Boon type romance novel summary and turn it into fic, either straight or with a lot of ridiculous and subverting and as gen or shippy as you wish. With bonus fandom book covers.) It's in summer, so I suspect that'll be out, but I do love it, so we'll see. (I have a perfect summary for Obi-Wan/Padme and an idea, but OTOH I have now written that a lot since January and it was tiring so someone should just write 10k of that for me.)

Oooh. I couldn't resist the hc_bingo amnesty challenge: I've been having trouble writing original fiction recently, but fanfic seems more doable, and this particular challenge seems like it will be a good excuse to reread a beloved book. (Which beloved book depends on the prompts. We'll see how the spirit moves me.)

And I need to remember to actually go nom stuff for justmarriedexchange this time. Or I might not be able to fruitlessly request my favorite human/robot ship again.

Given that OUaT has more characters than my other selected fandoms, I suppose it's quite likely! But we'll see what happens. XD (I was a bit wary of Ripper Street but the only one I don't have is S5 and I'm pretty sure there are no new main characters in that. Hmm... I suppose I've time to change fandoms yet, heh.)

Yes, go nom! GO is already there, of course, but some other things will need your attention. I have made some noms in B7 and S&S but I have spaces in both if you thought of anything. (I was going to nom Padme/Obi-Wan but someone has nommed that - it's getting strange to have a ship that other people want!)

I've always wondered about that, actually. Do they compile a list of all the characters from all your offered fandoms and pick randomly from that (thus making it more likely to end up writing for a fandom with a large cast of characters), or do they randomly pick one of the fandoms and then pick from the list of characters for that fandom (thus making all offered fandoms equally likely)? The second way of doing it seems to make more sense to me, both in terms of balance and effort, but I honestly have no idea.

Yes, there's no way I was going to be the only one interested in that! Although I am a little curious as to whether anyone will bother nominating any of the minor characters.

I'd only be interested in the titular characters in S&S, anyway, and it's been ages since I did much with B7, so I'm good there. I really do need to go and see what's already been nommed and think about what I do or don't need to add. I also want to look over the tagset, as there may be a freeform or two I'd be interested in asking for that might not be there already.

Oh, I'd never thought about that! It could be either, I suppose. We'd have to ask the mods.

I'm just considering my Just Married noms some more and I'm probably not going to request DW (but not 100% sure on that, either) and wondered if you had done your noms or not and if you had done/were going to do either DW and had any spare spaces and if so, if you would be willing to pop in a couple things for me?

ETA: Oh, wait, not to worry, unless you feel like it! I just remembered I have a sock for things like this if I need it. (*coughs* I only use it for putting extra rels/chars into already nommed fandoms, though. In these days of people failing to nom co-ordinate, I feel that's okay.)

I did already do my noms, and they've been approved. Can you add to them after that? I'm not sure if you can or not. I usually show up late to this process, so I'm less familiar with it than I should be. :)

If I'd been thinking, I would have maybe asked beforehand if you are anyone needed me to do any, because I only did a few, so I definitely had/have slots left. So, if your socks fails you, let me know and I'll see if I can still add more. (And I will not judge your sock. ;))

If you have spaces left in the fandoms (or blank fandom spaces), yes, you can edit them up until they close. You can't change what's been approved, though. (I often just nom what I'm sure of and then come back and nom other things later if I think of anything, or sometines, if I don't to add more major pairings/other characters so that more people can do the fandom if they like.)

My sock is very well behaved and discreet! It's never signed up for an exchange or anything (being one person in an exchange is more than enough to be going on with), although it did once sign up for a bingo and write one fic as a cunning disguise. :lol:

Anyway, thank you! I think my sock should be sufficient, if I remember in time, unlike hurtcomfortex. But if not I'll let you know!

I gather there are a fair number of people who do sign up for things with socks. I guess as long as they actually come through withe the assignment, it's not the worst thing in the world. Me, I wouldn't even know how to go about setting up a sock even if I was nuts enough to want to sign up for something twice. And I barely remember/bother to nominate things as myself. :)

Yeah, I can't imagine jggling two accounts in an exchange! I just set mine up after the last LJ fiasco, because so many people left altogether I realised Yuletide nom swapping was going to be completely hopeless and that might stop me being able to nom my obscure weird old fandoms of my heart just to get Silver into S&S, so I just set myself up this other AO3 account that summer, which didn't take long (as long as you've got another email address to use, really). And I was bored, so I also gave my sock a Dreamwidth account and chose a nice layout for it. :-D

Although I did feel that it ought to do something to justify its existence and signed up for a bingo and wrote one fic. So I almost had a double life for about two seconds, but that was it, barring me suddenly remembering it when pining for noms. (THat fic got more kudos than anything I actually wrote as me that year, lol.)

I am weirdly amused by the thought of you a secret, utterly harmless double life for two seconds. The thought that it was, for its own shining moment, actually more popular than you in some sense just makes it almost hilarious. :)

Thanks! I hate to be mean, but I also wish I have a very cold, cloudy summer! What a lovely thought... (I am stressing out at the mere idea of its imminent approach already, which isn't helpful, but then nothing about summer is.)
