I think it's fair to say I'm pretty depressed right now & it is about time to cease the wallowing in despair and things, really. Shall we try a meme?

Give me a number and a pairing & I'll write a drabble or ficlet!

1. glad you came
2. team
3. don't lie
4. i'm coming home
5. story of my life
6. falling down
7. clarity
8. counting stars
9. wake me up
10. safe and sound
11. lose yourself
12. in the sun
13. the monster
14. burn
15. sweet nothing
16. i'm with you
17. we believe
18. thanks for the memories
19. anything could happen
20. little talks
21. the pretender
22. by the way
23. sanctuary
24. paradise
25. where is my mind

(Any two characters will do if you don't want a pairing, just use an '&'. Not that if you apply a '/' romance will necessarily happen, because this is me. But I do try. Any fandom you think I know is fine. I shall just say if you come up with anything I don't know or really can't do.)

If I say any, any is exactly what I mean! :D

I haven't met these three yet, but they seem pretty delightful here, and definitely consistent with my experience of Doctor Who! I like it!

I love them already! <3

I've recently started watching Doctor Who from the very beginning, in 1963, and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone, and delighted by how many of my favorite things are already in place. I put off watching Doctor Who for years because its vastness was intimidating to me, but now the fact that there's so much of it makes me happy. It's one of those things that makes me feel better about being human when it seems like we can't get our shit together. Whether it should or not, I don't know.

I love Ian and Barbara SO MUCH. <3

Thank you for the link to "The Adventure;" it's perfect! So much running! So many hugs! What a perfect song! I feel like I might end up watching this one a lot (I have already watched it twice).

I've only just seen to the end of the very first storyline, with Susan not fitting in at school, the discovery of the Tardis, and cavemen power struggles. Since I don't have a lot of free time to watch things, I've just been putting one episode on every couple of days. It helps that they're only twenty minutes long!

It's such a delight to see (what I think of as) the essential companion role already established this early: be kind where you can, don't take too much bullshit, and try to keep the Doctor from messing up too badly.

In the new series, I just finished watching s6 episode 4, "The Doctor's Wife."

And! a Doctor Who NOVEL featuring Jamie and Zoe just appeared at the used bookstore! Do you have any thoughts on tie-in novels? Are they good? Spoliery? Outside your experience?

The Jamie & Zoe one is The Wheel of Ice by Stephen Baxter, a Penguin Ace book. Dust jacket calls it "an all-new Doctor Who adventure," so I think it's not a straight novelisation of a serial, though that doesn't tell me anything about how spoilery it is.

There are also three Broadway Paperbacks with Matt Smith on the cover. Matt Smith is my current Doctor, so even though these are also "all-new adventures," I will not try to read them until I finish out his run (also, one of them has Clara, who I have not met yet).

I LOVE ANGST. Doctor Angst is some pretty high-quality angst in my experience.

It's fairly new (copyright 2012), so it might have been written for the 50th anniversary!

I lived through the 90s when the only canon we had was the New Adventures and they were set on making every past companion die and suffer without end.

:(

Now I feel bad for saying that I love angst. I DO, but companions should live long and happy lives; the lifespan mismatch is already enough of an angstportunity without adding any bonus suffering. :(

David McIntee wanted to kill Barbara, but they wouldn't let him. They were prepared to let him kill Polly instead, but apparently that wouldn't have done at all.

I've read that. Unlike the BBC books, it doesn't do horrible things to the Doctor or the companions, and I don't think it has that many spoilers. Though there were a few references to The Mind Robber while Zoe is babysitting.
