Fannish Meme
Mar. 27th, 2010 01:43 pmI'm not sure my brain's recovered from the week (what with daft fic, Obsessions, nasty minutes, general stuffs, and making comms). It must therefore be time for a meme, and I found this:
Give me a character from any fandom, tv show, movie, book you know that I know and I will tell you:
a. My favorite thing about that character.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
f. Their ship from hell.
g. Their song.
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
i. The last bad dream they had.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
Some of those questions looks hard, but fun idea, and an excuse to maybe exorcise some of that obsessiveness. :-)

Date: 2010-03-28 07:43 am (UTC)a. My favorite thing about that character.
He's funny. This is always important. He's the one who really doesn't want to be doing this hero stuff. And we don't know almost anything about him. And he's kind of dangerous, too.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
We don't know much about him. (Yes, I'm a contradictory soul).
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
Don't tell a soul, but I really liked the idea of Vila/Cally on my first watch. (At least in a wistful, maybe more friendshippy way, because then it got all Avon/Cally and I was won over to that.) But Vila does seem to have a different relationship to Cally.
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
Leela! He’s so her type, he’s intelligent, tries to hide it, and is completely hapless and in need of protection. If they ever met, it’d be love at first sight, provided he didn’t do anything on first meeting that would make her try to kill him. Which, to be honest, he probably would, but she’s willing to overlook things like that on further occasion. (Edit: I always forget that Leela does meet a character played by Michael Keating. And were it not for the fact that, inconveniently, he's the only one with a partner in The Sun Makers, I'd have shipped them, too. In my multi-shipping Leela stories, I mean. So, yes. Should have happened.) ;-)
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
Doctor Who. As many times as possible. Obviously. (Does that count as a crossover universe?)
f. Their ship from hell.
Let's face it: Avon. For one thing, Vila likes the women, and while they do have a genuine friendship, I don't think constant sneering from a superior being is what he's after. Plus, Avon tried to kill him. (I don't think he'd be keen on Servalan, either, even if they make an unexpectedly funny double act.)
g. Their song.
Brain is blank. There is bound to be something witty I should think of here. A song about stealing.
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
I don’t think he’d write an autobiography, but if he did, probably something modest like ‘How I Won the Rebellion Singlehanded’ that might get him free drinks and admiring looks from passing females.
i. The last bad dream they had.
“I'm in Hell and it's full of Avons!”
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
I'm sorry, but that's a leading question; I can't possibly answer that.

Date: 2010-03-28 07:50 am (UTC)He flirts with EVERYONE.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
Um. Ansgty angst? Bad writing in Torchwood on occasions?
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
Um. He flirts with EVERYONE.
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
Did I just say, he flirts with EVERYONE. Maybe Leela again, although she would be very disappointed to find he came back to life again after she'd killed him for his arrogance, assumptions and liberty-taking. Sorry. But I suppose she would enjoy killing him again. Or someone like Lynda Day who would be totally unimpressed and squash him as flat as anyone could squash him. (She already has her own flirty, talkative American, thanks).
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
Um. Given Jack's journey through history, perhaps some inappropriate arrival in a BBC Dickens period drama.
f. Their ship from hell.
Now, wait, he flirts with EVERYONE. I suppose he probably wouldn't want to end up with a Dalek, maybe.
g. Their song.
I am rubbish at this bit of the meme. My brain has decided it doesn't know any songs at all. Ooh, wait: "You're So Vain"?
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
Kiss and Tell
i. The last bad dream they had.
Probably about being buried alive, killed over and over, and some stuff I don't know for having missed CoE.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
Do you want a list? Plus, that's also a leading question and I can't possibly answer that, either.

Date: 2010-03-28 08:02 am (UTC)Her mysteriousness, and I like her being the Doctor's granddaughter, which kind of stuffs up anyone who'd like the Doctor never to have a relationship with anyone, ever, right there at the start.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
She isn't well-used, and often ends up getting hysterically and screaming. I like her, but there are times when she requires patience, or ear plugs.
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
David Campbell. He slaps her with fish. It's so romantic. *poker face*
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
I'll get back to you on that one.
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
The X Files. She could try out being unearthly on Mulder and Scully.
f. Their ship from hell.
Um. Susan is very strange, so hard to tell. Susan/Master: "Oh, I've just hitched up with my Grandfather's best enemy, who might actually be a relative if you believe some people. On top of being evil and not liking people who scream. Whoops."
g. Their song.
Oh, I have a good one! "The hole in my shoe is letting in water". (Um. I think that's what it's called. Whatever song it is with that line in, from the 60s)
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
Actually,. instead, given the situation, she published a series of helpful handbooks on 'How to Grow Your Own Vegetables After an Apocaplypse' and 'Making your own shoes' and 'Cooking on an open fire' and 'How to Build Your Own Space/Time Machine'.
i. The last bad dream they had.
That she was being followed by something through a creepy jungle and chased down corridors by Daleks... (P{obably)
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
And that's yet another leading question I can't possibly answer.

Date: 2010-03-28 08:11 am (UTC)Aw. LEELA! She is awesome, awesome she is. I like her fierceness, her vulnerability, her willingness to learn, her random habit of adopting unlikely and hapless men, her combination of looking on the Doctor as a sort of God-like figure who can be very silly. "Do not fear, Doctor. I shall look after you."
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
I prefer her eyes brown, although I understand that poor Louse Jameson didn't want to be stuck with red contact lenses.
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
One? Just ONE? Okay, then, Andred, because it is the most ridiculous canon ship (because I don't believe that Peri/Yrcanos thing for a minute, and I'm hoping there's nothing romantic between Glitz and Mel) we're given, and yet Leela can make it work. For reasons of my own, I do favour an AU Leela/Poul ship, but sadly it's AU to DW, and to all the Robots spin-off, too. :-(
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
Vila! See above. He's so her type. She might be the only woman who could really cope with him, and she certainly has her legs on display. Although, also I did write this brief crossover with various characters, and I have to say, wrong as it might be, I wouldn't leave Leela alone with Rupert Giles for very long... :-D
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
I could see Leela in a historical drama (a la Talons). She would be baffled, eager to learn, and dismissive of restrictions she really didn't approve of.
f. Their ship from hell.
Clearly, someone brave, handsome and strong, or anyone from her own planet.
g. Their song.
The Wild One.
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
Well, Leela would never sit down and write an autobiography, but given her situation, there was probably a dry, academic tome written on her effects on Gallifreyan society.
i. The last bad dream they had.
Probably being eaten by a giant rat, or letting the Doctor down.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
What is it with the characters everyone has chosen? That's a leading question, too! But probably dying well in battle.

Date: 2010-03-28 08:19 am (UTC)Harry and his sarcasm, quoting Shakespeare, being ruthless (sorry) and the rock on which Spooks is built. And still going to pieces every time it comes to Ruth. :-)
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
Um. That's quite difficult. His worrying tendency to get shot at?
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
Do I need to answer that? Tessa, obviously. No, sorry, Juliet, of course.
Yeah, all right: Ruth, Ruth, Ruth, Ruth....
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
I have to confess, I can't quite get that Harry Pearce/Sarah Jane drabble out of my head. There's a sensible story in there and, of course, if they met at the right time, they're both such flirts, that, well...
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
I am all for crossing Spooks with DW as often as possible.
f. Their ship from hell.
The worrying thing is that the evillest women Harry knows are probably people he has had relationships with. Erm. Harry/Zaf?? He's not all that into cool, or, as far as I can tell, slash.
g. Their song.
Something classical.
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
That's a tough one. Would Harry write an autobiography, or not, given his position? And if he didn't, someone probably would write one. The title ought to be something from Shakespeare.
i. The last bad dream they had.
About his staff getting killed, losing Ruth, and having no one around to do any work... Oh, wait, that's the day job.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
Hah. Finally. A character I can answer this question for. Going by the evidence, while he's hoping for a peaceful retirement and popping of in his sleep, probably getting shot.

Date: 2010-03-28 08:25 am (UTC)Lynda Day is who I wnated to grow up to be It didn't happen, but there you go. She's bossy, obsessive, ruthless, but she's clever, and she's not heartless, and there's a reason why her best friend has more faith in her than anyone else in the world.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
Um. Um. Her clothes? Except, she wouldn't be Lynda if she wasn't badly dressed.
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
Spike. Spike/Lynda is the OTP of Press Gang and if you can't ship them, better walk out the door now. Besides, while I could definitely AU Spike into other relationships, Lynda's too single-minded and determined, and Spike's the only one she wants. (Edit This assumes in some fashion that Lynda's not around, or she'd do something evil to wreck any AU Spike romances. She has jealousy issues.)
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
See above. Really.
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
I am always in favour of crossing things with DW. (Am I getting boring.)
f. Their ship from hell.
She might have some sympathy with him, but Colin. He is, after all, the only guy in the newsroom she won't ask out when she's trying not to go on a date with Spike.
g. Their song.
I am so bad at this bit. (I have to say 'Ban the Boob Tube' works really well on a fan vid "You're seventeen, evil and mean...")
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
Naturally it would be a tale of Lynda's rise to the top of the newspaper business with a clever title. (I fail.)
i. The last bad dream they had.
It's usually something to do with Spike.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
And now there's yet another leading question I can't possibly answer...
no subject
Date: 2010-03-28 04:47 am (UTC)no subject
Date: 2010-03-28 02:03 pm (UTC)She's clever, and unimpressed by the military and supposed aliens, until she tests their worth. She is unafraid when kidnapped, but not uneblievably tough. And I love her sarcastic comments and winding up of the Brig, and her managing of the Doctor very much.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
Erm. The silly hat in Ambassadors?
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
Well, now, there's a tough one. Ship Liz with someone? I can't think of anyone...
*stops lying* I think everyone round here knows that I ship Brig/Liz about as hard as I ship anything (not very hard, I admit, but still). Had they really got together, they would have pwned the world.
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
So this is assuming neither the Doctor or the Brigadier or anywhere around to get possessive, or shoot someone? It's very hard to think of these for people you spend all the time working on an OTP for. I'll come back to you on that one.
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
The X Files. She'd have some things to tell them.
f. Their ship from hell.
Regan seems keen, but somehow I can't quite see Liz ending up robbing banks in a kind of Bonnie and Clyde outfit, tempting as I am by this as a bizarre Happy Ending au.
g. Their song.
The Scientist.
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
I think she's more likely to write a few articles and science textbooks. An autobiography would be censored by UNIT.
i. The last bad dream they had.
That she was running from the bad guys in a short skirt and long boots. Possibly.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
Do you know, that's another leading question. Mid lecture, maybe?

Date: 2010-03-28 02:11 pm (UTC)a. My favorite thing about that character.
I'm looking at my answers above. I can't bring myself to write bad things about people. Kenny can't do that sort of thing either. He has a fatal inability to be mean, but he's not a doormat either. Favourite things? The moments when he stands up to or gets the better of Lynda because he knows her that well. Plus, he falls in love with a wrong number.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
Hmm. I suppose I'd wish he didn't get so swiftly bested by Colin on the two occasions he comes up against him, but then he's just too nice to comprehend where Colin's coming from.
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
This si tough, because I met him in the books before the TV, and read the Wrong Number story - and then when I did finally get to see S3, it was 'Chance is a Fine Thing', the sequel to that. So originally, Kenny/Dublin Girl, but seventeen or so years later, I actually got to see S2 and found the whole Sam/Kenny flirting thing going on. I'm completely torn.
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
Look, I'm having enough trouble just choosing between Kelly and Sam here, okay?
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
I don't want to be boring and say DW again, but I will.
f. Their ship from hell.
Lynda. This may be why he's so keen to see her with Spike (except he's too nice, and just knows how much she likes him.) Colin would be even worse still.
g. Their song.
I fail. I'm sure there's a perfect Kenny song out there.
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
Kenny would never think anyone would want him to write an autobiography.
i. The last bad dream they had.
Probably something involving Lynda or Colin.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
I refuse to answer that. No killing of this Kenny, please. Mind you, one day, if Lynda makes a mistake, she might get him killed.

Date: 2010-03-29 05:45 pm (UTC)Well, I am abusing the phrase a bit but it seemed to fit, given that all the characters concerned have Uncertainty written all over their fate so I'm chosing not to comment, or give my verdict (or be spoilerish.). :-) Sometimes my English is not completely pure, and I make up words.
I'm going off to contemplate Sgt Cuff in the light of those qs now.

Date: 2010-03-30 05:24 pm (UTC)That he arrives fully formed as the typical detective character complete with personal quirks and secrets written in envelopes, despite the fact that he has few predecessors in the all-new-detective genre.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
That he gets it wrong halfway through. Of course, the conventions of the genre hadn't been fixed up then, but now they have, it seems wrong.
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
Erm. I don't think I would. I suppose he has some sympathy for Rosanna Spearman, but I really don't think...
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
Again, he's just not a shippy character. Please stop with the shippage questions.
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
I would love to see a proper DW/Moonstone cross. I think most things are better crossed with DW. ;-)
f. Their ship from hell.
Miss Clack.
g. Their song.
Flowers in the Rain.
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
Detective Fever. But actually, he would be more likely to write a book on roses.
i. The last bad dream they had.
That they failed to solve a case.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.
Well, that was the 1860s, so, I should have thought he would. Eithre some nasty incident in 19th C London, or a heart attack while tending the garden.
