I'd been itching to try a GO crossover for a while and then astrogirl's lovely fic Stars and Wheat and Apples and Eyes inspired me to write this. (It's not really connected; it's just the reverse. And just possibly, this could be why Aziraphale lumbered Crowley with a lot of awkward wheat-blessing, who knows?)

I was originally thinking of setting this pre-S7 (during the Hyperion Heights curse) but then it occurred to me that the original curse actually puts Storybrooke on Earth not very long after S&S finished, and then it all came together.

(I'm stupidly amused at "Cursed Storybrooke" as a tag, because obviously that is a useful fandom freeform, but also LOL.)

I managed to edit this (which I wrote last week) and had to post, as I have not only completed hc_bingo's May Small Fandoms Challenge with this, but achieved a bingo for genprompt_bingo (round 17). \o/

I managed three out of the four prompts on my hc_bingo 'stamp' (deadline/time bomb, possession/mind-control and sensory deprivation, although I am tempted to claim the fourth as well (orphans) on the technical basis that Mina is definitely an orphan in this, but I thought it was a tad too technical.)

So, I wound up trying to make use of my Prequel feels... and then wrote this, which is a bit of an oddity. This fic has the unique distinction of being pretty much the only one I've ever written where the first draft went so wrong in structure it ended up coming out the wrong ship. I feel this is a considerable achievement, even for me. \o/

I have fixed it now. Mostly. It wound up being a lot less shippy all round, but that is par for the course. Anyway, have a fic where I sold out the Galaxy to get my ship to be a thing.

1. I had another look at the eligibility criteria for the current hc_bingo challenge and realised that S&S is too big and now I don't know what to do, frankly. Oh, well, at least there are no penalties.


2. I've been continuing to work on making a Genderswap recs list for genprompt_bingo (my idea I thought of turned out to also fit the next door as-yet-unfilled "Conficting Oaths/Obligations" square, so that worked out fine) and it's more or less done, though I need to check it again, but I felt the need to share with everyone here that when I was going through the tag on AO3, I came across a genderswapped Romeo & Juliet fic where they'd been renamed as Giulio... and Romana.

This classic Who fan immediately cannot picture that going anything like the original. (I didn't read it; it could only have disappointed after imagining Four and Romana doing R&J for TTR Storytime or something.)



3. You may recall that I currently wrangle The White Queen on AO3, which led to me wrangling The White Princess and having to watch almost the entire damned thing it. (I keep thinking I should say it wasn't that bad, but the thing is, it really was. I still find gifsets painful just because of the costumes. I mean, there's inaccurate but for reasons, and inaccurate but pretty (which is a reason) and then there's just... The White Princess. And it was so bad it should have been so much fun, I still want to try and pretend in my head it was. Still, at least the Henry/Elizabeth modern AUs are great.)

Anyway, the reason I mention this is because Starz have NO MERCY and have now made Philippa Gregory's next book, The Spanish Princess, and a brief gifset that crossed my path has left me boggling already because what even is that? (Yes, that is Elizabeth of York and Catherine of Aragon because GOD ONLY KNOWS. Luckily it's a close up so you needn't worry about costumes. Yet.)

The thing is, based on my previous experience, I probably will end watching at least some of this for wrangling purposes. *weeps* WHYYYY. Unless, of course, The Tudors wrangler bites the bullet for me. It could go either way...

(Hmm, I wonder if Margaret Beaufort will murder Arthur and Elizabeth of York as well? Can anyone die and not be murdered by Margaret Beaufort, that well known 15th C serial killer?*)

I haven't been feeling that well the last couple of days, which it took me a little while to realise was some extra virus and not just a bad day, but it happily seems to be improving already, and I tidied up this fic, inspired by my 100 Elements prompts and me making graphics for these particular new OC Elements last week. (I blame Tin's casting on swordznsorcery! ;-p)

Some comms of my own:

tardis_library - a Doctor Who reccing comm, made as a successor (but different from) the lovely calufrax (now inactive, but with an amazing backlist that is still one of the best ways to get at gems from the Teaspoon Archive) - recs from all corners of the Whoniverse, posted anywhere, and in any media format. I'm so pleased with how this has taken off - more people & more recs are always welcome!


historium which I have just set up as a central hub for all history fandoms, whether RPF or fictional to meet, post stuff, or use as a launching pad to set up more specific comms. It's had a great beginning & I need to get back to it once I am a little more recovered.


tic_tac_woe or Apocabingo - a panfandom mini bingo challenge (using a tic tac toe 3x3 card) with all apocalyptic prompts! No deadlines, just sign up for a card & then end worlds/countries etc. or save them as you wish. (Fictionally, obviously.)


who_allsorts - as an extra, because I meant to only include three, but I've a soft spot for this one. It's another Doctor Who community - an old-school prompt table with claiming, but with bite-sized tables. You can sign up for up to two at once and claims are very flexible (anyone can make the same claim, pairings/characters/eras/themes are all accepted, so you can choose how wide or narrow to make it). I created it with the object of enabling more DW content of all kinds, and I still think the prompt tables are very pretty!


Not-by-me communities:

hc_bingo - still my favourite bingo, despite frequently being terrified by the prompts! It's very flexible about interpretation of prompts, and fills can be comfort, or hurt, or hurt/comfort as you please, and any fanworks are eligible. It runs once a year, but there are fun amnesty challenges and you only need to create one fanwork a year to stay eligible for the next round. It's been the perfect excuse to write a lot of things, and I've really enjoyed the Amnesty challenges when I've taken part. (Which are open to anyone if that works for you better than a bingo.)


fic_rush - we need to sort ourselves out for another round soon, but this 48 hour actual ficathon (i.e. writing marathon) has been a wonderful supportive & social ingredient of my journalling life ever since I first plucked up the courage to join. There are ninja penguins, alien fish, glowsticks, and writerly pasta and attempts at galactic domination, but you don't have to worry about that. I mean, until and unless the penguins get you...


I enjoy recs and reccing comms, the main two of which I follow here are fancake (though I never can get myself together to post for a theme) and gensplosion for gen recs (which I have recced for, but am bad at doing), both of which have led me to some excellent fic, and both of which are panfandom.


There are so many comms I like! Here are, quickly, some more:

Bingos - ladiesbingo, trope_bingo, allbingo and genprompt_bingo. (Of these I particularly like genprompt_bingo (which takes any kind of fills, despite the name, it's just that the prompts are gen prompts) but they're all good in their different ways.)

Icons - iconthat, icontalking, icon_library, icons10in20, icons & fandom_icons. (A mix of challenge and general posting comms.)


Which is probably enough from me, but I still like comms. And that's even before we get to all the exchanges or my other comms I run or co-mod...

I'm feeling a little better (ish, more maybe feeling better about not feeling better?) but I haven't been posting so much, as I've still been tired. Also some of the things I would talk about are Yuletide research and things. (Isn't it always the way?)

But my assignment now has words in my notebook! Several pages of them, even. They need to get out of there and onto the computer, but, all being well(ish), that should be okay at this point. I have mostly defeated the complicated overlong treat, I think.


Anyway, some things:

* fandom_stocking has opened for sign-ups! Just fill out a form, get a 'stocking' hung up, and people will put nice fannish bits & bobs in it. You can put nice things in other people's too. It's almost guaranteed not to open on time, but it's usually a lot of fun.

* genprompt_bingo is opening for Round 15! I still have a Round 14 card I'm working on, but it's one of my favourites. (The prompts are gen, but the fills can be shippy or gen or whatever as you please.)


In the meantime, I have mostly been amusing myself when tired by making pretty S&S element-things for tumblr, which I think helped on the being more cheerful front. Either that or despairing a lot on Weds, or both, most probably.

It got slightly derailed because I adapted one of the segments into a Yuletide treat for calliopes_pen as it matched one of her prompts, but I decided that story ended up differently enough even from that particular segment of this to warrant typing this up as well. It also fits the genprompt_bingo square "push and pull."
